Title: Blood clots
Post by: Sarah Louise on May 29, 2014, 12:15:55 PM
I wonder if you can feel blood clots in your legs?  Sometimes the pressure in my thighs gets so bad I wonder if its a clot.

Its violent today.

Yes you can. Deep Vein Thrombosis requires medical treatment with a clot buster similar to TPA in stroke victims. My Endo told me older transitioners (with Dr. approval) should be on a daily low dose aspirin regimen if on HRT to prevent this issue.  :) Check your pulse on top of the foot and inside the ankle. If it is non existent, weak or any other abnormality call your doctor ASAP. A bluish discoloration below the pressure area on your hip is also a sign blood is not circulating properly. This can be a life and limb threatening complication.

Sometimes the area can be reddish and swollen, too.

When I first started hormones I had pain in my legs, but it went away and wasn't a clot.  I've heard this has happened to others as well.  However, it's better to be safe than sorry by getting it checked out.  Since we are more at risk for dvt, it makes sense to be a little cautious with it.  In any case, I hope you feel better and hope that it's not anything to worry about.

Whether what you're experiencing is a blood clot or not, you should have it looked at.  You're not supposed to have pain in your legs that could be described as "violent".  And if you do, then you want to know why.

If you aren't taking an aspirin everyday, then you should be.  It's the least we can do to show our bodies a little love.  The hormones can be hard on the old girl.  ;)

Turn off the computer and go visit your doctor.  It's a beautiful day outside, and today is a lovely day to be alive.

Peace,
Miharu

I had DVT in my left leg, it seemed to be at the top close to my crotch, next morning my left leg was twice the size of my right one. Went to ER right away and had a Doppler ultrasound and the entire main artery was plugged with a big clot. I was on Warfarin for six months to dissolve it. My blood created new pathways to my foot and back, I now have bulging secondary arterials close to the skin, not too pretty, and my left foot and ankle remains purplish and splotchy. Got that from self medicating earlier, now I'm on a low dose patch only as topical is much safer.
