Title: Stop Over Thinking Things
Post by: Gina Taylor on June 03, 2014, 09:25:48 AM
I saw my therapist today and he told me to stop wasting so much energy in try to convince my mom into accepting me. 'Cos he knows just as much as I do that it's never going to happen. My therapist is gay and has been married for 16 years and he tells his mother-in-law that he doesn't care what she thinks of him and I should be exactly the same way with my mom or any other member of my family. So he's instilled some confidence into me, and I now know what I should be doing and how to handle things.  :) If these people can't handle the fact that I'm a woman, that's their problem, not mine.  ;D Time for this girl to take on a new attitude in life!  :icon_mrhappy:

Attagirl! ;D

That's my exact attitude too: I can't sit around waiting for everyone else to accept me for who I am. I need to push forward and get on with my own life; everyone else can catch up with me when they're good & ready.

And if they don't? That's their loss.  :P

Y'know Cindy, that's exactly what my therapist said, and that's exactly what I'm starting to do!  :)

Very well said! I guess the old adage is true. 'The older we get, the wiser we get'  From this day forth I'm going in a much better direction >>>

Yeah, we should not waste our lifetime in trying to make others accept us.
If they don't understand just go with your life. I do the same: if you have problems with me being transgender then go away, it's your loss not mine! I have friends who love me, I have a girlfriend too. There will be always people who appreciate you for who you are  ;)

I couldn't agree with you more Kiwi. It's amazing but I have more friends {female} that understand me and want to be friends with me just because of who I am and by being true to myself as my true gender.  :)

My therapist calls this "OPD" - other people's disease - when they have problems with who we are

I find a "<not allowed> you" attitude and some thick skin really helps your confidence when dealing with OPD.

Really interesting Eva, and a tick skin is something I'm definently gonna develop! :)

Many of us spent our whole lives trying to please other, afraid we would not be accepted. This is a new talent I had to develop. That is not to say I don't care about what constructive feedback I might receive, but I am not going to change their prejudice. They are the ones who loose out, not me.
