Title: almost 2 months on HRT but i look the same
Post by: Annaiyah on June 03, 2014, 10:44:27 PM
Ok, i know hrt don't give overnight results and i know some of you are gonna tell me, "oh, just be patient, it takes time" and whatever else but I'm almost 2 months in and i don't look different than i did pre HRT.

I know every trans person if different and so is everyone's dosages but I'm jealous because some of the girls i see on YouTube are only 3 months in, i mean, BARELY even started hrt and they already look and even sound completely passable and cis.

I know I'm in the minority (sarcasm intended) but would've loved to have been one of those lucky few to look that good after only a few months in.

Well i think i found my culprit and, it's something i suspected all along.

Last week, i logged on to my Mazzoni Center account and got a message from my doctor saying she wants me to take 2 dosages of the testosterone blockers twice a day (4 total pills a day, i used to take only 2 a day) instead of just one but still only 1 dosage of the estradiol per day.

She suggested this because when my lab results came in, they found i have too much testosterone and that it's not completely blocked yet. Well... I think i have too much testosterone. She didn't say that in the message, just that it's not entirely blocked but I'm assigning my blame to too much testosterone. Has anyone else else had a similar experience?

The only change I'm noticing so far though is that I'm not masturbating as frequently, whereas i used to do that every other day or every other day at the latest (on occasions) but now that I'm on hrt i actually can't for the life of me remember when i last had an orgasm, though it wasnt THAT long ago. I'm still attracted to women and my hair growth isn't slowing down after shaving.

I just can't wait until i get to that stage where i can go full time.

Two months is barely any time to really have super noticeable changes and it takes time to get the right hrt regimen down, gotta be patient. We all experience puberty at different rates and no one person is the same. Unless you have a clone lol  The fact that your libido hasn't been as high as it was prehrt is definitely a good sign your t is being reduced though.

It wasn't until about a year that I started seeing noticeable changes in my face. My fat redistribution has been very gradual. I'm 2 years in and I'm still seeing changes.

You know we are all going to tell you it takes time and 2 months isnt long.  Ive seen my fair share of trans-women that where 100% passable without hormones, but lets face it, that isnt all of us.  I hadnt seen much at all at 2 months, changes seemed to kinda start at like 3 months.  Also, delivery methods make a difference in some cases, I do injections, and I have heard some people have better results on injections.

I'm only 4 mths into HRT 7mths into Tblockers and whilst I can say I've noticed quite a few things(my endo has said I'm quite lucky) the reality, that my Endo pointed out, is that it can take upto a year for them to stabilize everything. By that I mean get your T down to where they want and get you the right amount of E levels to move things forward. I know its frustrating and hey I get frustrated too, but give it time(and yes I know thats prolly not the answer your looking for but its kind of a reality).
I always kind of think though that in this time where we are in that waiting stage/andro stage, its a good time to start telling friends/family, look into our future in employment and lifestyle etc etc. One of my TG friends said to me the other day, dont look in the mirror everyday expecting change, we put too much pressure on ourselves and invariably get down about things. She suggested taking it as it comes, living out lives and maybe taking pictures once a month so we can track any changes. :)

Do you have a taylor measure tape? You should use a measure tape and track your progress with Science!

I've been on hrt for 17 months now. Honestly asides from my hair regrowing I noticed almost no changes the first half year then late last summer I was told and saw that it was awkward for me to go topless. I'm now really beginning to look a lot more feminine but still have more to go. Have patience, it takes a lot of time for this all too work. We didn't finish male puberty in two months nor do we finish female. For now do what you can with presentation. One day you'll look into that mirror and you will see that lovely girl staring back. I'm just now seeing her and it is the most amazing feeling, hang in there and enjoy transition :)

after 2 mth you cannot expect alot. for me, i took almost 1/2 year when i finally reached the target hormone level.
for me, after i reached, i was absolutely happy about being female, also from the medical point of view :)

For me the only thing that was almost instantaneous was my mood, overwhelming emotions, sometimes resulting in happy tears moments after being injected with it, good stuff, but everything else, very slow process. Either my dosages weren't good enough for me all these years, or I needed some extra oomph added to it, or well my body is just slow at growing, this includes these feminine changes. Okay, so I look fine enough now, but it wasn't an overnight thing, nor a few months, it took years. I love the physical changes, though always want for better results but there are some things that can't be changed just with hormones, but how it affects me inside is even more important. I had a really good day yesterday, but then later suddenly started crying, and this is how it went most of the night up to a little while ago, tears even streaming down my face while working out, didn't help that I looked at myself in the mirror earlier and didn't like how my body looked. So yeah, don't expect miracles, only that if being a woman is who you are, the hormones will make you feel right inside (I'm not on them at the moment, temporary set back), everything else just takes time and some occasional assistance.

You can go full-time anytime you like. The hormones don't have much influence on that. I went full-time before any HRT, mainly because that is what is needed in Wales but also because I was thoroughly hacked off with pretending to be male and didn't want to do it any more. There are plenty of others on here who leaped long before they were planning to for similar reasons.

If you want to go full-time then do so.

And how do you know they are being honest about how long they've been on hormones?

My feeling is that The Girl largely exists between your ears.  Yes, hormones can be a great help, but what would you do if your body reacted badly to them?  Stop your transition?  Absolutely not!!!

I mean, honestly, all of us have wanted to be girls for a looong time, so the girl is already there - hormones might help us expose her physically, but the real exposure for many of us (at least those who are over 30 :D) is getting rid of the layers of social masculinity and showing the girl we want to be.

Just my ramblings...
Hugs

Sweetie, I didn't start getting gendered as female until the 5th month, and that was a once a month thing until the 7th month, when it became once a week. It took about 10-12 months to really come into a feminine face, and honestly I look back at some of those photos now and say I STILL wasn't "there" like I would say I am now. I think the true tilt STARTED around the 16 month mark.

Two months in:

At two months, the fat is still around the lower jaw. This is a very masculine area for fat placement. There is probably ZERO fat redistribution above the mandible. The dermal layer of the skin probably hasn't even been "reprogrammed" at this time, let alone for the changes to have traveled from that layer to the top layer of your skin. If I remember correctly, the only things that changed for me during that time was slightly softer skin, breast buds, and some muscle atrophy.

OMG injections are the worse for me! Last visit when I had my blood drawn i kept whining and shaking and they ended up hitting a nerve. Now my wrist hurts when i move my hand a certain way. It's better than what it was now but I always cower in fear when I'm about to get a needle, even at 23.

*sighs* ugh. I'm still trying to figure out how I'mma tell my aunt. She's the one I'm closest to right now. I wanted to stay stealth but I feel i must tell my aunt if anyone, especially since I want to get into TV, film, and acting and things like that. But that's another thread.

I'm waiting for my face to look feminine enough without makeup... and to get my jaw surgically reduced, AND to have my hairline surgically altered.

That's the thing. I don't. But then they really could be because hormones can produce some pretty amazing results.

You look gorgeous, Alainaluvsu.

I know this feeling all too well lol, i was actually feeling this way not too long ago.

if it makes you feel any better, I'm the same way. The men in my family all have higher-than-normal testosterone production... but look at my post in Before & After and you be the judge of how my progress is going; I personally think its great for being someone with high T and only 3.5 months on E and T-blockers. Here: https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,144104.1820.html

am I 100% satisfied? pfft, NO. but last month I did NOT look like that... Sometimes its hard to notice the changes even though they are there, sometimes it takes an outside perspective to notice "wow, you're starting to soften up a bit."

Quote from: AnnaiyahStarr on June 03, 2014, 10:44:27 PMThe only change I'm noticing so far though is that I'm not masturbating as frequently, whereas i used to do that every other day or every other day at the latest (on occasions) but now that I'm on hrt i actually can't for the life of me remember when i last had an orgasm, though it wasnt THAT long ago. Your hair growth doesn't change until WAY later.... even now I'm only beginning to see one or two small thin yellow hairs on stupid places like my forearm or my back... but the majority of my body (especially the most visible parts) still grow black, thick hair.... its going to take a while for HRT to effect your hair growth. And also, HRT doesn't change your sexual orientation... if anything it will only make you realize that you always had an interest in "whatever" sex you have an interest in. Take me for example ~ before HRT, i swore I was bi... after 3.5 months, I'm a complete lesbian... 0 attraction to men, and 0 desire to be attracted to men... just because your orientation hasn't changed doesn't mean the hormones aren't having an effect... in fact it has nothing to do with it.

Quote from: AnnaiyahStarr on June 03, 2014, 10:44:27 PMI just can't wait until i get to that stage where i can go full time.

as H, H, H, Honeypot said... you can go fulltime whenever you feel you have the balls (no pun intended) to do it.... I went full-time after my 2nd therapist session... TWO MONTHS before even starting HRT... if you wanna dress female, then by all means... but just don't expect it to be rainbows and sunshine... I do it because i cant stand wearing male clothes, its a huge trigger for me.

I still don't always get gendered properly... I get ma'amed and stuff, but every now and then I don't... just the other day I made a post about how misgendering was tearing me apart... You're expecting a little too much in such a short amount of time, and that's fine... I and many others are guilty of doing the same thing.. but be patient, you wont start seeing (or at least noticing) drastic changes until 8 months to a year, and that's being generous. Before you start considering any sort of surgery, just give the hormones a chance... Your face will soften up.. I mean hell, just look at mine! and as I said before, I'm only 3.5 months in and also another fellow "higher T than normal" person like you... A lot can change under our noses from one month to another :P Try not to overthink it, just try to enjoy the ride and remember that it takes time, before you know it, you'll be living the life you are supposed to live and you'll wonder where the time went <3
