Well, with everything going in my life.. after nearly 8mos of the herbals.. I have finally joined the real club. I had an appt with my Endo this morning. We chatted, he checked me out, he said we'll begin today. So I got to walk out with scripts for a month of Spiro, estradiol and finasteride. Talked abt the potassium loading (and I love bananas and guacamole!), and he'll check me in two weeks. Went to Walmart, got them filled (but only had a week of E on hand, have to get rest next week). I don't know what to expect, but I'm a bit happier already. Took my first E, F and S a moment ago. Dont wait for me.. but I'll be along shortly.
I really forgot to ask, but googled the primary use for the Finasteride (MPB and prostate shrinking), but what is its HRT main purpose?
Paula
Congratulations!!
Welcome to a new beginning, hugs.
Congrats on getting the 'E' ticket Paula! Place your tray table and your seat back in the full upright position and prepare for takeoff! :)
great, wish u the best!
As far as I know Finasteride is an anti-androgen. Congrats!
Congratulations Paula. Now you get to exercise your patience muscles. The finasteride is to prevent testosterone being converted into DHT. It is DHT that is the real baddie of the piece when considering hair loss. I have heard all sorts of views about finasteride from it being essential to a pointless waste of money.

Congrats Paula, at least that's one big positive to counteract some of the negative you've gone through lately.
Speaking of which, how are you holding out? I saw the posts in the picture thread about what happened with your wife when you got that package. Sending some hugs your way as I know it's gotta be rough.

the whole process, especially when you´re starting with hrt feels like a rollercoaster.
in my case i was totally getting crazy sometimes ... but i think those up´s and down´s are part of transitioning too.

Basically to stop the masculinzing effects of DHT, which would include MPB and the prostate. Not everone takes it, but I noticed Dutasteride did seem to help me femininze, and changed my hair a bit. Dutasteride does the same thing as Finasteride.
congrats
Thank you, everyone! This has been a long time in coming, and I am still very nervous, even after being on herbals since Oct.. The emotion train has been running at full speed since mid-Oct, so I'm well aware how I've been affected by it, um, and so is my family. :-\
I have noticed the magical powers it has given me... I wasn't prepared for it! For instance:
1) I can make my wife fly, in to a rage with a single word, :o
2) I can become invisible, all I have to do is walk in the same room my wife is in, I can neither be seen or heard. :P
I did a couple searches and found finasteride helps keep DHT from doing its evil magic to hair. So it's all good.
Overall, I know it's only been a few days on drug hormones, but either it's a low dose (it is), or I already have had a good beginning with the herbals (I only have to look down to tell that) and a higher dose will only speed things up, not get things going. *sigh*
I'm still very much on the outs with my wife. She's demanding mediation this week but she can not find a job, so being on her own is not likely to happen. That part, will only happen with luck or a change in the economy.
Thanks again to all, all my bags are packed, I'm ready to go.. Hmmm, I think there's a song in there somewhere.. :)
