Title: 'female' tenant wanted .. can I apply?
Post by: Tony2Toni on June 07, 2014, 04:29:39 AM
I've recently changed my name and gender by Statutory Declaration and most of my paperwork has been updated to female .. I have a covering letter from my doctor also..
I'm now in the process of looking for a new accomodation.. Question is ..
When the advert says  'female' tenant wanted  .. can I apply?
Grey area??    Toni..

If you are female, and you are, I don't see why not. Most of it will depend on the person looking for a roommate and whether they have a prejudice against taking in trans females.

If it is a group share housemate situation maybe.  Wait until the interview until you decide your paperwork is in your correct identity so it would come down to how you feel about them their views and the area itself.

Single occupancy if the majority of your paperwork is saying you are female I would go for it. It may just be prejudice on their part as they have had bad experiences with male tennenets

oh i was quite in the same situation years ago but without any document changes, not that easy.
most of all i thing it depends on your passing and your gender expression, if nobody will recognize that you actually aren´t cis , i think everything can work easily, but if they´re recognizing you´re trans* probably i can be complicated.
