Title: Electrolysis red bump treatment?
Post by: teeg on June 07, 2014, 03:52:59 PM
I've started electrolysis to clear up a few areas laser couldn't clear.

Last Thursday was my first appointment. I've noticed red bumps where I was treated, it almost looks like acne (I've barely ever had acne my entire life). When I've washed my face it almost seems like I've picked a scab or something, as they look a little bloody...

Does anyone know the best post-electrolysis treatment? Should I be moisturizing? Neosporin? Etc.?

That usually goes down after about three to four days. You need to be very careful not to knock the scabs off or it will result in tiny scars...not a good look. So yeah, no scrubbing, no make up and no shaving in the area. It's one of the reasons I don't show my face in public for a few says after a zapping session, it's not a good look. To assist the healing process and avoid infections I use alcohol wipes to keep the treated area a bit more sterile.

Hi Teeg,

Don't worry, it is the same for me like said Ms Grace.
I wash very carrefully my hands and after my face. After I apply Neosporin 2 or 3 times per day ; each time after hand/face washing.
Or, I use organic oil essential : wintergreen, Helichrysum, Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), tea-tree and and St John's wort maceration oil.

For me, I prefer the second solution.
Take care of yourself.

Keep the treated area as clean as possible.  That is really the only rule. Other things may relieve any dryness but those areas look much worse if the treated follicles get buggy.

I have been reacting badly for the whole two and a half years of my treatments and sometimes look worse than when I had bad acne! If I had been presenting as female during that time, there would have been weeks without showing my face.  In all that time, nobody has ever said a thing.  Now I go every 3 weeks and haven't shaved in 2014 at all. Still get a bit spotty though. Soon....soon..

Edit: I am 52 so a spotty face is not really an age-appropriate look!

What do the scars look like?  I have a little discolored spot on my face, and I was wondering if it was from electrolysis or if I had it before and just didn't notice.  I had white dots of puss or fluid the day after, but no scabs.  My girl told me to clean it with witch hazel because alcohol and peroxide were harsh on the skin.  I know peroxide cleans but also damages tissue, prolonging healing, so stay away from that.

In addition to the others, I'd add using Zinc Oxide Ointment. That's the thick white cream often put on irritated baby bottoms when they diaper rash.

I have my electrolysis done with E3000 in Dallas and we clear the entire face each session, every 6-8 weeks. I always have some of those red bumps. And for me, at least, wearing a full mask of zinc oxide ointment to bed for the first 2-3 nights totally clears that up with no side effects.

I don't know if it will work as well for you, but you could give it a try!

I just use aloe vera to soothe the area, and the red bumps go down in about 3 days!
Also try not to touch the area too much, and I leave it atleast 2 weeks between sessions to give it a chance to heal properly :)

Hope this helps honey

Def use zinc oxide as after treatment and also,  that reaction is a histamine reaction so taking anti histamine tablets before and after helps a lot.  Mine was gone in a little over a day.

I found that since I started taking ibuprofen 40 mins before the appt, it really helps limit the inflammation and formation of all those spots after treatment. Try it and see if it helps!

Also, try not to pick them, can cause scars if you do :S

Also apply witch hazel on it after treatment every now and again :)

I've been getting Electrolysis for about two years now so it is pretty much all gone. However I still have have a slight bumpy complexion where my facial hair used to grow in. It's not really that bad but I do want it to look smoother and more 'cis-like' than what it is. I was wondering if anyone post-electrolysis can relate? Since I don't really shave anymore as barely anything grows in the complexion should gradually improve further over time right?
