This is to all the new ones who are just starting toward the HRT goal, but mainly the ones who have not had any appointments yet. Do not get discouraged by hearing the 'I think we need to do...' or 'I think we need to find out....' statements from your doctor. When we are trying to do this right and make sure our health is in no way compromised by some unforeseen obstacle, we will hear these statements from our Dr. when we believed we were 'there'. In my experience this has come out of the blue twice when all I wanted to do was just get this going. Well I have found out first hand that there is one more benefit to this than just health. This is a peace of mind that can only come from putting health first and not having that unknown coming to mind later. So when you hear those words from your doctor just be glad that 'all is good'. My own start should now be in a couple of weeks as the last stone has been overturned. So dont let this process dishearten you. Dani
And yet birth control pills which are more harmful to our health are prescribed like candy to thousands of millions of women worldwide...I guess those doctors really do care about us, more than women who need contraceptives for sex. Yay for us! LOL.

Contraceptive pill has been proven as safe as smarties! Yayness!
The standards of care are determined by epidemiology - BC has been used that much, and made big pharma that much money that there'd be an outcry if there were any moves to increase monitoring of the effects. TG therapy - not so much, and cross-gender HRT has the risk of doing funky things so higher levels of care required.
The nice thing about jumping through the medical hoops prior to HRT is that you end up with a reasonable picture of your state of health.

All I know is that ethinyl estradiol in birth controls and the progestins often used are way more detrimental to our health (i.e. clotting) than the bio-identical estradiol or progesterone we take. Anti-androgens are another matter, of course but really, if you think about it, they don't even have to be used. Estrogen alone can suppress T and quite safely, if taken non-orally, as in injectables, pellets or even in gel/cream.
Sadly, money rules the world and people care more about that than peoples' health unless the latter affects how much money they earn or lose, then they care!

Dani, this is a great post, some extremely sound advice. I felt similarly when I was on the non-HRT side of the process. I started to get incredibly impatient and annoyed at the health professionals standing in the way and making me jump through hoops I thought were pointless and unnecessary. And really that was only a four month process from go to HRT. In the grand scheme of things, four months is nothing at all. Felt interminable at the time but you're right, I made it and I also have peace of mind.

i think my impatience stems from being triggered by basically breathing and my concept of time is so thrown off it really feels like i'm frozen.
I, too, have issues with time. Always did.
I understand that time is relative but have not been able to find them. Perhaps they are a distant relative :)

Thanks so much Grace, (I had no idea that kudos felt this good ;D ) I figured if a long wait time was this big of a deal, then it must be for others as well. It seemed my mind was fertile ground for many unfounded negative thoughts to grow, and thanks to the others for their info and answers. New goal: find out what smarties taste like....ummm maybe not, my weight loss is going along nicely :). Dani
