Title: For guys (and gals) in NY
Post by: JesseO on June 08, 2014, 09:47:16 PM
Hey!  Not sure if there is a sub board this should go in or if it has already been mentioned, but wanted to let you know that the requirements for changing your birth certificate in NY have changed.  You no longer need to have gender reassignment surgery (hysto) - they can accept the following information from your doctor.

language stating that the applicant has undergone appropriate clinical treatment for a person diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria as defined in the most current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or language stating that the applicant has undergone appropriate clinical treatment for a person diagnosed with Transsexualism as defined in the most current edition of International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems;  or as these diagnoses may be referred to in future editions.

I am not 100% sure if the forms are online (I couldn't find them) but the email address that can provide them is vr@health.state.ny.us.

This change does not apply to NYC.

Thanks for posting this! Someone else mentioned it to me today but I haven't had the chance to research it yet. This is great news!
