My google-fu fails me today. How does one get a court-ordered gender change in the state of Georgia? All I can find is Georgia birth certificate info, which doesn't apply since I was born in a different state. I'm planning to start the name change process this week, and I'm pretty clear on that, but I can find nothing on getting a court-ordered gender change as well.
The driver's license office site says a court-ordered gender change will do to change gender on my driver's license. But how the heck do I get one?!

I don't know for sure but from what I've heard surgery is the only way to get a gender marker change. I've also heard of a other less official way but I haven't tried that myself. You might need to hire a lawyer to find out for sure.
Apparently, there is no form for this like there is for a name change. You have to initiate it through a lawyer.

Although I've never thought about it, I didn't know that any states didn't have a specific form for gender change. CA allows us to change name and gender all in one go or just do whichever one we want.
Gender change should be pretty basic for an attorney who specializes in that sort of thing. Do you know of one? If not, can you get a recommendation or referral through an LGBT center? Do you live near a center?
What do you need to change your gender on your states birth certificate?
I would do that and they would have to change your DL. to match.

My birth state requires surgery to change the birth certificate. The surgery is non-specific, so just top surgery should do it. But for the Georgia driver license, it's the same thing - surgeon's letter:
1. Gender updates requires applicant to submit a court order or physician's letter certifying gender change.
2. The letter or court order shall state the person's name, date of birth, date of gender reassignment operation and other identifying information.
I find #2 to be rather vague, and as such, I think a well worded vague letter from the surgeon will suffice.
JayDawg, both requirements look vague enough that a properly worded letter from your GP might do it. But I wouldn't count on it.

I know having a orchie can a mtf a F. So I'm assuming having a hysterectomy could get a M for a ftm. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful I need to check with some of friends to see what you need to do to get your gender marker changed.
I used a letter from my physician and was able to change my drivers license, social security, & birth certificate all to female. It was actually an easy breezy process. Got it all done in a couple of hours.
