Title: Hormones at surgery
Post by: Ayden on June 19, 2014, 09:42:16 AM
So, I have one payment left and I'm all clear for surgery in 35 days! Awesome!

I asked my doctor if I should halt my HRT for any time during my surgery timeframe and she never got back to me. I'm going to call until I get her, so I'm not asking for advice on that front. But, I am wondering if any of y'all have had to stop T during any time before or after surgery?

Eh...accidentally deleted my reply.
I think it is better to ask your surgeon since stopping T is usually not necessary but just for precaution. I was asked to stop a week before top surgery but not for lower surgery

Dr G leaves it up to the individual doctor (as you know, just clarifying for others). My PA did not see any need to stop and I didn't. I had no problems whatsoever, and know many people with no problems. I do the compounding cream, I think I missed two days because I did not feel like putting it on right after surgery.
Some of the guys at New Beginnings were very surprised that I had not been required to stop.

It was never mentioned by my surgeon at all.  I didn't stop.

My surgeon usually asks patients to stop one week before the surgery. Also, you might want to know this ahead of time, depending on what type of hormones you're taking. If I'm not mistaken, from what I gathered in your other posts, you don't live in the US, so I don't know which type of T you're taking, but I am in Europe so my injections are every 3 weeks, meaning that I had to stop T a whole 2 weeks and a half before top surgery.
I'd say definitely ask your own surgeon/their office about this if you can.

And good luck with your surgery ! :)

I'm certainly going to talk to my doctor. I wouldn't make choice about this without talking to her. I was mostly just curious about other guys experience. Thanks for sharing :)
