I have very been brittle nails and very coarse thin dry hair any suggestions on vitamins minerals etc. to improve both hair and nails?
No ideas from anyone??? I can use some advice for this as well.
I've heard biotin is a good product for hair and nails. I saw it my house today and was gonna try one, but they smell funky so I decided against. I know they do have gummy versions, which I'm going to try and find. I've heard from most cis-girls who take it and they say it works well
There is a supplement called brewers yeast.
healthline dot com/health/brewers-yeast
If in doubt or if using anti depression meds, or if you have diabetes you should ask a doctor.
I looked into it and found many people saying they had improvements in hair and nail growth.
There are quite a few fashion web sites also stating that, and its advertised that way.
It should be readily available as supplement since its not patented, in fact the substance is known for quite some time.
I'd prefer organic sources.

I use biotin and I feel like my nails have gotten stronger.

Yep, Biotin is part of brewers yeast.
There are simply many more ingredients included.
From the link above:
Because of its nutritional value, brewer's yeast can provide energy and may help maintain healthy skin, hair, eyes, and mouth. It may be effective at supporting the nervous system and enhancing the immune system.
As said above, organic sources might be of advantage because its supposed to be more healthy.

A healthy diet with the right amount of protein for your height and weight, along with vitamins such as biotin that's been suggested above, and a good multivitamin, plus a keratin based shampoo and a good moisturizing conditioner, and use a nail strengthener (OPI is a good product) & hand lotion.
for sure Biotin, I use cvs hair skin and nails, and 3 pills contain 300% of dv , women need more biotin than men from what i understand.
Twinlab makes a product called "Hair Factors"
I'm a biotin fan too.
Was actually going to start a topic on my question below, but decided to piggy back on this one ;)
I am using a Hair, Nails and Skin formula (includes Biotin), I got it for all of those, I have nails that fracture and chip handling anything, bad MPB and dry/aged skin (I also use heaps of moisturizers, lost count of the various types LoL)...
Q - I started the HN&S formulas about 3 or 4 months ago, I have noticed a slight increase in body hair (darker hairs) than prior, also my facial hair seems to have increased slightly... anyone else noticed this

Progesterone helped my nails and hair. Biotin did nothing for me. I also read some studys where no effect of Biotin was found.
Lots of biotin. My electrolysis gives every client a full strength bottle. It works for everyone.

For your nails use very hard clear polish to protect them & polish remover that helps the nail. You can grow nice nails, just take care of them.

Oh, for sure the gummies taste great! I know what you mean by the pills; I tried one, and the taste refuses to leave your mouth no matter how much water you drink. The gummies are much tastier and I found a big thing of them at Costco. I read it's important to start off on a low dose at first. The recommendation is two gummies, but it's safe to start at just one everyday, preferably after a big meal. It also has the tendency to make you break out, I read. I have gels for acne already so my skin isn't a problem. I've only been on it for four days, so I'm far from seeing results. I read it's supposed to be a couple months before you see a difference.

I also use this.
Having been a frantic nailbiter for years. They grew pretty fast after two weeks. Still a bit brittle but just keep them proper by using a nail-file.
so wait so...Progesterone can also help nails? Are we talking the micronized kind?
Also even with Biotin I have thin nails, got to be something else to do like paint them with a daily strengthener from the outside?

Yep..always bioidentical micronized progesterone...
Well you could have a loot at the brewers yeast... there are more ingredients than only biotion...
and there are combinations with zinc which might also help...
Things are all of the suggestions

I jut wanted to give a big plus 1 for Biotin. I've been using it for a few years and have definitely seen improvement in my nails, which were prone to coming apart in layers and getting brittle as soon as they got anywhere near long enough for my liking.
Hard to say whether the hair has improved as Ive been doing a lot of things to help regain some of what I've lost over the past year and, when I started the Biotin, I'd been shaving my head for the previous 10 years, so there's not much to go on, really!
Biotin definitely works wonders.
My daily routine for hair and nail care is a multivitamin gummy and a viviscal extra strength vitamin in the morning, and another multivitamin gummy, viviscal extra strength vitamin, and a biotin 10000mcg pill in the evening. I always take them with a small meal and LOTS of water. If you follow a balanced diet and drink lots of water (I drink vitamin water for an extra boost in energy) you should see significant improvement in three months tops.
Drinking lots of water and the multivitamin also helps keep your system clean to prevent breakouts since sometimes biotin can cause unwanted breakouts (luckily it hasn't happened to me, but there have been several reports). I'd recommend using a cleansing moisturizer to keep your skin strong just in case the biotin has any unwanted side effects.
Is it alright if I heat style my hair frequently? I always make sure I use thermal protection and my flat-iron only goes up to 200 C/392 F.
I wash my hair with tresemme keratin smooth every 3 days. I make sure I use a minimal amount of shampoo and a larger amount of conditioner because my hair is pretty thick and frizzy sometimes. Keratin REALLY helps make your hair smooth.
I apply it by spreading my hair all the way back so it mixes in thoroughly and reaches the ends. Also, using a comb or a round brush helps if you have thick and wavy hair. I've heard people (who probably have naturally straight hair) say that you shouldn't do that lol.
Hi Emocia
Sorry I missed your introduction. I'm in Australia so not too far away!
I have curly hair that I love to keep straight with the flat iron. My hairdressers tell me not to do so every day no matter what protection I use on my hair. I use keratin treatments as well.
Some days I just blow dry and comb rather than using the iron.
I have really dry skin and hair, and my nails are fairly brittle, so i have more than a few tricks up my sleeve for this kinda thing (despite being ftm... for some reason i still follow most of these)
As for nails, I use a thin layer of vaseline on them overnight and when it's absorbed i use clear nail varnish. People never notice it really (thank goodness. so masculine to have these flawless shiny nails). File 'em instead of cutting them too, it's something my mom always made me do. My dad does it too... they both have crazy strong nails.
I also take odourless garlic and apple cider vinegar tablets, though I've been lazy with it recently and it's already starting to fade... They're really good!
as for hair, conditioning it once a week for a few hours with a mask and conditioner mix with some oil really does miracles. I used to follow a really strict routine, and it has crazy good results, but it's high maintenance naturally.
Just curious, has anyone ever used the gummy biotin compared to the regular pill version? I used to use the gummies but never could say that it did any noticeable work. I was thinking about moving onto the gummies that are hair, nails and skin. I'm not a fan of taking pills but I like the gummies. I'd take the pills if they work better though.
Biotin is best, 10,000 mcg per day. You can find it anywhere & very inexpensive. Maybe take finerastride to help stop the wrong chemicals from slowing your hair growth & thickness. There is also a cuticle oil called Glorious Nails Naturally GNN that does wonders on your nails, it's used by women all over the world, look it up & order it, inexpensive.
