Title: Birth control and transitioning
Post by: Jadams95 on June 29, 2014, 08:21:25 PM
Im FtM and I'm going to start T soon, and my doctor first had me go off the birth control pills I've been taking for 2 years. My skin is breaking out soooo bad and that time of the month is becoming a lot harder to deal with(cramps, mostly.) Would I be able to go back on birth control while taking T? Anyone have any info? Thanks

Nearly all birth control consists of some type of estrogen, typically ethinyl estradiol.

Taking birth control while taking T would be a bit like driving your car with one foot on the brake and another on the accelerator.

However it is possible.  Healthy men and women have both testosterone and estrogen.... just in different proportions.

Sooner or later you will probably want to leave the estrogen behind.

Within about three months on T if you're on a high enough level (barring a very stubborn uterus) you'll stop menstruating anyway, and staying on BC will probably prevent that. It will pay off soon enough.

You'll still have the acne problem, though. Ain't nothing to be done about that. :(
