WASHINGTON — The White House is preparing an executive order offering transgender federal workers formal protection from discrimination at work, President Barack Obama announced Monday. This is a pivotal moment for the transgender community since he is the first American President that said the word "transgender" and officially acknowledges them. While companies already have anti-discrimination laws in place to retina and recruit the best talent available, Obama is taking this further since he believes that people shouldn't be fired for reason unrelated to their performance at work.

Obama is really taking the reins on this and we have yet to see what may happen.
Regardless, we can look forward to what may come out of his effort to help transgender Americans in a positive manner.
Assuming my company doesn't already protect me (I think it might but I'm not sure) this would affect me. I'm a contractor. Hopefully this would affect non government contractors as a "side effect"
