It was fairly hot out today, although not super hot, and I was walking my dog noticing the sweat pattern on my shirt. I don't tolerate heat super well. I was wondering for those that have been on HRT, how does this affect your tolerance to heat vs cold. If you can't stand the heat like me, does having breasts make it worse? I could see this being the case as in many ways its insulation on the front of your chest. However I know HRT changes a lot of things. Many girls seem to have more tolerance for heat than cold. I was wondering if HRT changes this at all.
it all depends on how your body itself reacts to HRT. not one person is the same but may have similar affects.
My tolerance dropped like a rock. I can't hold an iced drink for longer than a few seconds - same with anything moderately hot, and I have a narrow band of acceptable ambient temperatures now.
In that way I'm much like my mom and sisters. Makes me think it's hormones plus genetics.
I'm like Zoe! I can't get warm in the winter to save my life. Summer isn't as bad though. :)
I figured it wouldn't be the same for everyone but I just wanted to see from person to person how much of a change they experienced with temperature tolerances. If its genetics, 2 of my sisters tolerate heat, but not cold. The other...had plenty of medical problems making me think her situation isn't relevant.
So what was it like for you before HRT?

As male I ran Auto accident calls in the winter in short sleeves in driving sleet, No problems at all. I fought house fire into temps lets just say, very warm. No problem. Now if the thermostat is not at 74 year around I have issue's. :)
I get colder a tiny bit more easily but, I don't seem to be getting hotter any easier....but boob sweat does make working out a bit worse. When I took my sports bra off today after a fairly short 5 1/2 mile jog it was basically soaked thru with sweat.
I have always prefered the winter though, because I can always put more clothes on or move more to build heat but I don't really have any method to get colder.
I'm another whose temperature tolerance basically became a very narrow range. I used to run hot; I was comfortable in a T-shirt in the snow, but got overheated easily in summer. Now I still overheat like crazy, but I'm also cold if it's below about 65 degrees! No fair. :)
(And, oh God, the boob sweat. THAT was an unpleasant revelation.)

This is me ^^^ ^^^ I've a very narrow tolerance between hot and cold. I keep my home's temp as close to 84 degrees as I can because this is where I feel most comfortable. I can deal with heat though much better than I can deal with cold. I'm small boned and thin - tiny, too, so that might have something to do with it but I dunno.

That's the way I am now.

I guess I can only hope I get heat tolerance. Increased heat tolerance would serve me well here. Winter is pretty mild. Although I might have to get used to the idea of wearing something heavy under my skirt. Right now I would prefer to only wear skirts and dresses.
due to my sickle cells, cold and me, dont get along but the summer time....well lets just say the headaches that the intense heat brings is enough to trample a herd of elephants instantly
I raised this over a year ago regarding the change in my tolerence towards heat. I used to be a super star heat athlete, I would excel in hot and humid conditions. Then HRT changed that but I can say that after 16 months that I have adapted much better to heat, my tolerence level varies though. I feel this strange prickly sensation as I get ready to perspire though. I don't live in a cold weather place as the coldest we get is around 45-50 degrees and I felt that to be comfortable.
The heat doesn't bother me much more than it used to, but after transition, I did develop an allergy to cold (seriously, it's a real thing.) If I pull something from the freezer and hold it more than a few seconds or come into contact with something really cold for a few seconds, I develop a really itchy rash, though it's possible it's from the couple times I almost froze to death when I was twenty.......but I'm pretty sure it came about due to hormonal changes....
I grew up in the desert and am naturally brown so heat is really a non factor for me. I honestly don't even get bothered until it hits 95 degrees or more. Since I started HRT a few years ago, my tolerance for cold has dropped a bit, although I do prefer it.

I was born on a reservation out west in Cali's high desert area, and also lived in other areas of the desert so I'm a bit like you in that respect. Though my tolerance is more narrow. I now live in Florida and it's hot here most of the year, but will be selling my home soon after my SRS to move back home to Cali somewhere in the high desert area off the reservation close to somewhere I'll have support and access to Doctors without having to drive two hours one way for an appointment.

I've never heard of that, but it doesn't surprise me. I had a dog growing up that was allergic to being upside down. Any more than 5 seconds and he would have trouble breathing.

So basically the summery seems to be that its a very individual thing. It may or may not make me more like the women in my family. I may or may not benefit. Boob sweat isn't a good thing (which I suspected was a problem before asking the question). About the only conclusion that I can make is that there is a strong possibility of change, but as to how its impossible to know.
