NATURE WORLD NEWS — Using a certain type of "transgender" green algae, scientists have discovered the genetic origin of male and female sexes, showing how they evolved from a more primitive mating system into a single-celled relative.

Have you read the original article? I have to write some of my own manuscripts, so currently have no time to read other papers. But this is very interesting. Either interesting discovery, or just some big claims. Have they BLASTed this mid with SRY? They could even do a phylogenetic study if they have rescourses. But perhaps this is too off-topic for a bio-fuel company. It's more of a molecular evolution topic.

Nothing to do with SRY, sex determination in algae is much more simple than in mammals.
