Title: Are there any nail experts here?
Post by: Dani Davis on July 09, 2014, 08:34:09 PM
Hello Ladies.

For the past year or so, I have been having an ongoing issue with a nail that wants to split just as soon as it grows even the slightest away from the tip of my finger.

I do a lot of typing and ten-key at work but I do try to be mindful of that particular finger although not always with success, I'm sure.

I have tried everything - a fake nail over the top to protect it, layers of clear polish, even tried putting a band-aid on it to help cushion typing taps.  All to no avail.

The rest of my nails  are fairly nice looking but that one is just driving me nuts.

What can I do?  Is there something that a nail salon could do to help fix it?

I had that as well and a nail hardener (not clear polish) took care of it fast. Might try one.  :)

I'll definitely look into that too.  My lady friend is a pharmaceutical grade supplement rep.  Thank you!

Just purchased some WET N WILD hardener on eBay.  And I will be trying it out as soon as it lands.  It will be nice to solve this little issue once and for all.  I like my nails and enjoy the small act of shaping and caring for them from time to time and that one just gets under my skin every time I look at it.

That and with the use of the supplements going forward, I should be in good hands.

Thanks again, ladies!

I have seen tutorials on how to patch up a broken nail, but it all seemed like way too much work for me. aha
I would suggest biotin, and a nail strengthener. Research a good one though, I've heard that some contain formaldehyde that can actually end up making your nails even more brittle.

Definately biotin, my nails are really nice after taking biotin (I don't even care about the nails I was mostly concerned about growing hair longer XD). SO YEAH biotin helps with hair and skin as well.

I went for shellac nails, as long as you keep with them great nails forever

Thank you! I love purple, the bracelet I custom designed and the people who made it gave it to me for cost when I told them it was to celebrate my transition. The stone in the ring was given to me by a BF 35 years ago, I didn't realise it but I think he loved me  :eusa_doh:, he was a gem stone dealer and cut and polished it himself.

Aww, I really like that idea. I just started hormones 3 weeks ago, it would be nice to have a piece of jewelry to commemorate my achievement
How lucky to have had a gem stone dealer as a partner! aha
It's a very pretty rock, is it amethyst?

What the other ladies said!  Beautiful bracelet and nails too.  They compliment each other very nicely.
