Title: Need advice with changing name with bank and work (UK).
Post by: Des on July 10, 2014, 12:35:32 PM
So I'm not out at work and don't want to be out as I don't plan to stay there very long and I'm trying to be as stealth as possible when it comes to professional life.

I want to change my name with my bank, I was wondering if I did this, would my work be automatically notified? Or if it'll automatically change on my payslip/pay system somehow? I don't want the awkward situation of when HR deals with my pay and then wonder who on earth they're paying if the name automatically changes on the system, and I certainly don't want them to randomly question me about it and catch me off guard.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I am with Lloyds bank and while I was changing all my documentation with various bodies, they accepted income and outgoing payments with my new name AND old name while things were being 'tidied up'. If you explain to your bank, they will understand as all they want is your money in the long run. Honestly, my bank were great about the whole thing and made things easy. They left this open for a while I believe. Within a couple of months all my stuff was changed everywhere and that was that. The bank will not push sensitive information in the opposite direction, if you see what I mean, so you should be safe with HR. There will come a time though when this will have to stop.

Hope that helps and good luck.
