This summer I want nothing more than to meet up with some trans people and camp out for a few days while I'm free. I looked into it and I'm older than all the groups I've ever seen and I don't feel comfortable going with non trans people/allies being with me since I have a big fear over my chest size with certain things. I'd love to do something like 'my transsexual summer' but that's sort of a far reach. I've never been camping, so even if I end up going by myself and having a few days to just have a detox it'd be super great. Would any guys in the 25 up age group ever do a camp/hiking/summer thing with other trans people for an extended time to just share info and let go for a little while?
There are a few trans camps for adults. I know of one that's mostly trans men but it's uh...very adult.
Going camping would be a super fun thing. If there's any trans support groups or anything like that in your area, you could always suggest that as a meetup or something.

Wow I'm curious and yet I know that I don't want to do anything like that. It's cool that someone organized something like that!

The only trans group in my area that I know of meets once a month, all the other ones are on college campuses and it's summer times so I don't want to waste my time going when no one will actually be there since it's summer. I don't also want to seem like a creeper going to a new place asking if a bunch of ppl want to go to camping as fun as it sounds.
The "very adult" trans camping is trans campout. I'm not sure when it will b this at or if it already happened. It's in West Virginia.

Too bad, I can't travel that far anyway. Thank you for the info, if I ever change my mind I know where to look now.
I would LOVE to do something like this.
I love camping.
Locally we had a trans camp. I'm not sure it was at all "open" in that I think it was by invitation. There are LGBT camps and programs specifically open to trans people. There are also trans activities and programs through out the year. But an all trans camp all the time? Never heard of this.

I wouldn't be adverse to there being allies, but I would love a camp that just focuses on trans people with it being open to lgb people who aren't trans. Youth have these sorts of camps, not many but a few. I sorta just wanted it to be based on exploring the forest, having picnics and talking about trans stuff while having activities to do.

Yeah I agree, sounds like a lot of fun.

Camping would sound awesome. I wouldn't want to camp in the woods where I am overseas now though, since the bugs here are so big and ugly. Once I saw a tarantula.. never again. >:( I've still kept my love for camping, nevertheless.
We did a trans leadership camp, which was quite fun. Of course, if you hate large spiders you don't necessarily want to go to New Mexico. But to be fair, haven't ever gotten bit here (knock on something).

I agree that I'd love something like this. None of my friends near me really like to camp, and I'm not all about going out with a group of cis-strangers camping.

I feel the same, there are some awesome places around me but all my friends are super busy, I only have like two anyway so it's hard to go out and plan some get away time. I thought for a little while about inviting some lgb ppl to do it, but felt majorly uncomfortable at the prospect.
If you are young you might try volunteering at the trans camp for kids. I think that is pretty much a volunteer job. I can't afford to do this sort of thing with animals and so on. But I would gather there are a LOT of trans people working there and it would be pretty much fun. There are openings this summer. Even if you aren't interested someone here might be: http://www.camparanutiq.org/volunteer

I'll go camping with you!
I mean, you're a relative stranger from the internet, what's the worst that could happen? =P

The boogey man would get us both. ;) I'm a stickler for personal safety so if I went with people I didn't know I'd make at least one person I knew come with me haha.

I know in Sweden and Norway they got these,
we dont have it in my country but some of the transpeople I know are very good at making diffrent only trans and allys events and trips.
I don't actually know what's to stop you. Groups of people can plan events. I'm kind of in the midst of planning something else. But camping is fairly cheap, probably the hardest thing is to find a place where it's not too far for a number of guys to get together. I'm kind of surprised there aren't more real life meetups. But I have met people here at Philly Trans Health.

I started doing prelim ask arounds to see if I can get any friends to go with me. I could probably still do this while I have the time to do it. I want to go to Philly next year for sure!
This thread has rekindled my desire to volunteer as a camp counselor at the local LGBTQ youth camp. :D

Do it, it'd be a great opportunity. I had to turn down a job for people who accepted me as a trans counselor because I got carpal tunnel symptoms right before I was scheduled to go. Would've been great for me too.
