Title: New around here, question about HRT expectations
Post by: Serah13 on July 18, 2014, 09:42:53 PM
Hey there, I'm totally new here and had a question regarding what I can expect when I undergo MTF HRT. I'm currently 22 going on 23, so obviously any physical development I could have is loooooong but over. That being said, how easily will I pass as a woman in the long-run? Will people still be able to look at me and tell I wasn't born female? For a reference of my starting point, here's a link to some pictures of me cross-dressing (all appropriate I promise) with a little bit of foundation, eyeliner and eyeshadow.

If the link doesn't work let me know, I'm a totally newbie with these things. Um, as far as bone structure goes, I've been told that I seem to have more of a feminine structure, particularly around my hips and chest. I'm trying some voice exercises to feminize my voice as well if that info is of any help. Have a fabulous evening, people :)

Any physical development is not looooooong over :)
Some of us here are almost twice your age or more than twice.
I wish I had started my transition when I were as young as you, it would have been so much easier. Testosterone does mean things to transwomen's faces, shoulders, ribcages, etc, and it keeps doing them for the rest of our lives if we don't go on HRT.

As for what you can expect, I think you're doing quite well already and can only hope to do better!
I have not yet started HRT, so do not take my word for it :)
A cursory google (after rejecting a few sketchier sites) gave me this link for you:
http://www.camh.ca/en/hospital/care_program_and_services/hospital_services/Documents/hormones-MTF.pdf (http://www.camh.ca/en/hospital/care_program_and_services/hospital_services/Documents/hormones-MTF.pdf)

It seems like a pretty thorough investigation of the effects.
The effects will depend upon the regimen you and your psych agree on.

I started at 47! Just try to tell me HRT did not work!  :) That is really me in the avatar. ;)

A big warm welcome to the family! You have found probably the greatest resource on the net for anything trans. The great thing is the advice and stories of experience here come from real people who live with gender Dysphoria and are undergoing some form of transition. You will not get guesses to your questions or make believe, only what you can reasonably expect.

Hormones do work quite well and can make a huge difference. It's not over at all!!! Just wait and see...

Thanks for the replies. That's good to know because one of the things that was really making me nervous was whether or not it was too late for them to have much of an effect on me. Glad that's not the case :)

It depends on each individual body, of course, but there are lots of women here who started much, much later and do fine. :) I got on HRT at 32 and haven't been misgendered since six months in...
