Hello all :)
I've been living in Japan for 20-odd years, but I'm coming back for a few weeks in September, mainly to come out to my family ::)
I'm part time and I go out at weekends. I'm sort of passable some of the time, but the Japanese are nice people and nobody hassles me, I have no problems going into ladies fitting rooms to try on clothes, and I use the ladies loo without any problems.
I want to take the opportunity to get some clothes that fit properly (not much for a 6'2" lady here), also do some sightseeing with my SO, and I'd like to know about people's experience going out in the UK.
Are people generally accepting of transgender people or am I likely to get any verbal abuse (or worse)?
Any problems with toilet use?
Women here are pretty dressy, but what's age appropriate clothing for a woman in her forties?
Or anything that it might be useful to know.
Thank you :)
To be honest, everyone's pretty much minding their own business, I don't think they will pay too much attention, unless you want them too, lol :)
Literally never heard of the kind of abuse girls experience in US here in UK, I deem it quite safe
Have a safe journey and lovely time back home! x
Should be OK in most large towns and cities.I lived in London for 3 months and rarely had any more serious problems than the odd stare or rude comment a couple of times. It's been very similar in Manchester and Blackpool where I've spent most of my time
Samantha, crow crow and Kim, thank you for taking the time to reply.
It's good to hear that I needn't expect too many problems. I'll mainly be around Birmingham with some time in Devon, Bath and oop nawth in Yorkshire. Jeans and a sweater then I think, and hopefully I'll be able to get some shoes that fit at last.
Thanks again :)
