Title: At which point does dilation become unpainful?
Post by: Jess1912 on July 20, 2014, 05:43:02 PM
I was wondering if dilation ever stops being painful becasue if it hurts so much how can penetrative sex ever be pleasurable?

I think it varies a lot from person to person... for me it was only mildly painful immediately post-op, and then again whenever I had to go up a dilator size, but that lasted maybe 2-3 sessions each time.

And once things healed up enough for me to find my G-spot - wow. :)

I had the added distraction of a yeast infection that made the dilator feel like it was wrapped in sand paper, but by 6 weeks when that had cleared up and the sutures had ALL fallen out, it became more of a  pain in the neck than in the Vjay. As Jenna discovered though, once you find your G spot, which you will after the heaviest swelling is gone, it is a VERY NICE feeling about every third or fourth time you massage it, and that can improve with frequency.

A word of warning that a friend gave me, do not mix up your lube gel with hand sanitizer in your early weeks!!

It was never painful for me.  Very uncomfortable at first, yes, but never painful.  It get easier over time.  Most of the discomfort of dilation is not from the operation per se, but from retraining the pelvic floor muscles to be more pliant.

I'm over 9 months post-op and still find it uncomfortable to get to dilator 4. It takes a minimum of 20 minutes to achieve the depth I want with dilator 3, then another 15 minutes to achieve depth and width with dilator 4. I can't see vocabulary such as "slip in" being used for another 24 months, if ever. PIV sex right now would be extremely painful. I need to become a masochist, first.  :o

It's never been painful for me. I started on the #2 right after surgery then went down to #1 shortly after for a looong time as my surgeon wanted me to "take it easy".  Now at 8 weeks I've started going back up, and I can run through #1 to #4 in a session, but #4 is pushing it.  Not painful, but uncomfortable so I don't do that each time.
