A Republican candidate for the Colorado House of Representatives has said it is "untrue" that a person can change their gender.
Dr Gordon Klingenschmitt, who in the past has often spoken out against homosexuality, said on the Monday installment of his internet talk show: "Even after the man is castrated, he's still a man."
Referring to the case surrounding Meggan Sommerville, a transgender woman who sued her employer Hobby Lobby after they refused to let her use the women's toilets, he said: "And that not only should ban him from access to the ladies bathroom — whether or not he has the surgery, he still has XY chromosomes, he's still a man, he's just lying about it on his birth certificate."

I wouldn't worry too much about idiots like this one getting elected. Hell he prolly has an attraction to transwomen and feels guilty about it so he has to stand on his soapbox and denounce transpeople. It wouldn't be the first time somone felt guilt over their attraction and their own sexual orientation and spread hate about what they hate most about themselves. Usually when I hear crap like this that is where my thoughts aboutthem automatically go to.
Hmm... Let me guess what kind of porn we'd find on his hard drive.
I guess he's not a fan of Pat Robertson then...

(Not that I care what any of 'them' think about it.)

My thoughts exactly. It happens so often with these politicians who are on a moral crusade that I'd almost be willing to bet on it.

I just wonder. I could probably guess though. But one thing for sure, there would be some kind of porn. Even if it is the wholesome cis porn. Or lesbian porn.
Wow Jill, we done already judged this freak as a sex maniac. ;D

Yeah there's enough LGBT that are republicans or libertarians or independants that I really can't see someone like that getting elected.
Probably a closet "->-bleeped-<-"! ;D

I wasn't gonna say it, but my thoughts exactly. ;)
And not to forget there where 20 witches in Salem put to death in 1692
Hmmm.

See, he's right. Nobody can change their gender.
What he doesn't realize, though, is that we're not changing our gender, we're embracing it. It's not like we magically woke up one morning and said "Yeah, being a man was great and all, but I think I want to be a woman now." I don't ever recall a time where I consciously decided that my mind should be programmed to "expect" my body to be female and thus feel dysphoria. The last time I checked, my body wasn't programmed to run on testosterone ever since I was born, so I haven't changed anything, I'm just embracing who I was born as.
(I know that's not what he meant, he's a bigoted a**hole, but my point stands. :P)
Hell, my mom even tells me, she didn't recognize the "male" self that emerged when I went through puberty. But now, she "finally has me back," and once again sees me as the same person as my childhood self again. So again, I really feel like I didn't "change," I didn't "transition," I just corrected a hormonal imbalance that was trying to turn me into someone that I never was in the first place.
What a moron.
Why am I not surprised an obvious fundamentalist chooses the depiction of gender essentialism typically found in religious texts over reality? Personally, I'll stick with thinking gender is a social construct that can be changed for the better given that's what the evidence I've seen shows.
Also, I always struggle to understand those suggesting sex can't be changed, I think there's absolutely no justification for privileging chromosomes or genitals, things most people never see or can't see without tools, as The Ultimate Definition of Sex™ given definitions of sexes have varied across history based on numerous factors and continue to vary based on context. It's just a bigot's blatant attempt to hide their gender essentialism behind a façade of appropriated biological fact, as they try to do with many other constructed things.
My doctor never did check my chromosome type when he had the ward clerk type up my birth certificate back in 1948. Seeing how old the guy is though, I'll bet dollars to donuts he had genital surgery at about 36 - 48 hours old, and would have a stroke if I told him he had it. (At his age and mine prophylactic circumcision was almost needed to keep the doctor from getting malpractice lawsuits.)
