Hi everyone, I was wondering after how long on T you would be unable to pass as female anymore? Also, if you go on testosterone for say 3 months then stop, but continue again after a year or so, would that affect bottom growth? Thank you!
There's no telling when you'll be unable to pass as female anymore. There are some unfortunate guys out there who've been on T for a year and still can't pass in terms of their physical shape and facial structure. Heck, some people's voices don't change much and causes them to be misgendered. The bottom growth is irreversible once it grows so it'll stay until you start T again. But when you start a year later, you're basically starting from scratch again since fat redistributes back to where females usually have it and muscles soften.
Reiterating that you never know where the point of "little to no return" is. After a month my voice had dropped enough that I was getting correctly gendered in person 80% of the time. Around two months or so it was all the time except at drive throughs and over the phone. Probably three to three and a half months or so in, I never get called ma'am anymore, and my jawline has changed enough I probably wouldn't be able to go back, even if I could even GET my voice into a falsetto range, or higher than "gravely" lol. Four and a half months and a small beard is showing and I'm getting a "dirt 'stache" Which looks ridiculous so I shave it off lol, but yeah, that won't go away. The muscles started happening around three months, but at that point I still couldn't have gone back. My younger brother and I pass for twins at this point, can answer the phone for each other, answer the walkie talkies at work for each other, and just confuse the crap out of people in general. It's highly amusing, but he's cis, and I'm trans. For me to be gendered exactly the same as him, nearly down to the age that we get guessed at (we both look way younger than we are) and only four months, it's a lot of guesswork.
If you get a side effect you don't want, how would you handle that? (if you did run into my brother and me, look for the tattoos lol. Ours are different, obviously, and his muscles are bigger than mine, though not by much. :p )
I have a friend who has been on T for five years, and I'm pretty sure he still gets misgendered--it was still happening about eighteen months ago, and he hasn't changed appreciably since then. But he is very short, under five feet. On the other hand, some guys who weren't "passing" before can hit the gold a few months in.
Everybody's covered the "YMMV" aspect. I'll ask what your motivation is for wanting to go on-and-off-and-on. Messing with hormones like that, while it can be done if need be for some reason, is not fun and not advisable.
Some guys go on T with the explicit intention of stopping after acquiring certain male characteristics. Other guys start T, run out of money, and have to stop for a while. But I don't believe I've ever run into anyone who intended to go on T for a few months, stop for a year, and then start again. Stopping and starting can wreak havoc with your body and your mind. So I find myself wondering: What purpose would that serve, or what purpose do you think it would serve? Why the seemingly scheduled interruption? Why not just wait a year and go on T then?
