Title: which of these names
Post by: ruledbysecrecy on July 27, 2014, 04:59:44 AM
ok i've been trying to choose an andro/masc-ish name for school, and i've narrowed it down to 4.

if you could tell me which one you like best, it'd be a great help.

1. Devon
2. Phoenix
3. Mason
4. Charlie

thank you in advance

I like Phoenix, if you want a more "neutral" name.

Like the others here have suggested, Devon is a nice non-gender-specific name.

I'm not fond of the other three -- Phoenix in particular is a really flashy and unusual name, which you might regret the extra attention from. Particularly when choosing a name for ourselves, I feel like simplicity is an asset, since it's our own decision to live with. With our birth names, we can at least shift the blame to our parents ;)

I like the name Charlie.  It seems to me to be the most versatile out of the four.  If you were wanting to start fem-ish and progress to masc, I could easily see
Charlie -> Charles -> Chuck

I did the opposite;
Matthew -> Matt -> Matty/Maddie -> (work in progress) Madeline

I guess I'm weird, I see all of them as gendered names, not neutral at all. The closest might be Mason.

I feel that Devon and Phoenix are slanted pretty heavily towards being female gendered.

I like Charlie.

I like all of them :)
But Mason and Phoenix sound the most gender-neutral to me.

Pick whatever you feel defines you and who you are.

Yes I'm pushing this name but here is my reasoning for Charlie.
As a nickname it can be very andro but it is most commonly thought of as a male name.

(F) Charlotte, Charlene (okay all those in Aus & UK hands up who are having neighbours flashbacks)
(M) Charles, Charlie, Chuck
