Title: Getting a haircut
Post by: UltimoKazuma on August 03, 2014, 01:57:35 PM
Hi, I was DFAB and want to get my hair cut short to hopefully help me pass/help with dysphoria.  I currently have pretty long hair that is past my shoulders.  I was wondering how long a haircut (and styling?) might take for something like short hair with long side-swept bangs?  Should I go to a salon first just to get it cut short, and maybe later start going to barbers?  And should I go to a more expensive place to cut my hair short; would a place like Great Clips mess it up?  And does anyone have experience cutting their own hair short, and would you recommend it?
Thanks, any other tips or experiences with hair cuts would be great too!

i've been to great clips for my haircuts and they did a good job. they have those computers they put in your name and you wait in a que or w/e so i put my male name so i wouldn't get the whole "are you sure you want it cut like this?" even though i pass as male 100%. it usually takes awhile to get your hair cut short if you have longer hair because they have to cut it/trim it/shave it or w/e else. so maybe a half hour or more (at least in my experience and i don't even have long hair). i still go to places like great clips, etc. because it is pretty cheap and they can just cut it the way i want.

I went to Great Clips and they did okay - I wanted something kind of weird and she worked with me. If you just grab one of their men's haircut books and pick out a style (while you're waiting for your haircut) they know just how to do them.

Don't be too nervous about cutting your hair either - it'll grow back :P
