Wondering what your measurements are and starting a place where we can record our measurements and track them as hormones, exercise or other factors change us.
Just had to measure myself to order some dresses online, and figured I'd post my current numbers:
Chest 95cm / 37"
Waist 80cm / 31"
Hips 100cm / 39"
Adding weight/height for reference here:
Weight 82 kg / 180 pounds
Height 183cm / 6ft
Been meaning to measure myself since it's been awhile. Alrighty so I just measured comparing old measurements, I lost an inch off my waist and gained a half inch in my bust. If I make it super tight I can get to 27" in my waist but thats just uncomfy.
In inches
Bust 37.5
Waist 28
Hip 39.5
Oh and forgot to add my current weight is about 144 at 5'10, I'm trying to gain a bit more weight, like 6 extra lbs or so.
2 years and 4 months on hrt
Pre-Hormones:
Bust: 45"
Waist: 40"
Hips: 45.5"
(WHR: 0.89)
Current: (18.5 months HRT, 55 lbs lost)
Bust: 44.25"
Waist: 34"
Hips: 42.5"
(WHR: 0.80)
The day I started HRT my measurements were
Bust: 35"
Waist: 31"
Hips: 37"
I'll post an update at the 3 month mark ;)
Edit: I went back and measured again because I wasn't sure that I'd had the tape parallel to the floor.
I'm just under 5' 9" and I weigh 155 lbs
Chest: 38"
Waist: 32"
Hips: 38"
0.84
If I can gain a little in the hips from HRT or lose a little around the waist then I'll "technically" reach hourglass proportions :D
Hud yer whisht! I can dream XD
Before HRT
bust: 89cm
waist: 74cm
hips: 95cm
ratio: 0,78
18 month HRT
bust: 94cm
waist: 78cm
hips: 97cm
ratio: 0,8
My ratios are suprisingly similar to Galaxy. What is your height and weight?
Pre HRT Post HRT 16 months
bust 39 38
waist 29 30
hips 35 37
ratio .78 .80
weight 146 136
Height 5ft 7ins,
I'm on 64kg at 1,72m (sorry for european measurements)
Do your measure with "bust" your boobs or the chest?
Just to clarify here are the definitions and the ratio is waist to the average of hips/bust:
Bust: Place the measuring tape across your nipples and measure around the largest part of your chest. Be sure to keep the tape parallel to the floor.
Chest: Place the measuring tape just under your breasts/pecs and measure around the torso while keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
Waist: Place the measuring tape about a 1/2 inch above your bellybutton (at the narrowest part of your waist) to measure around your torso. When measuring your waist, exhale and measure before inhaling again.
Hips: Place the measuring tape across the widest part of your hips/buttocks and measure all the way around while keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
Bust => 90 cm
Waist=> 68 cm
Hips => 101 cm
Yes, I got it all on my ass xD..
My fat goes to my belly! :'(
Well my boyfriend didnt want to have sex with me because of my anorexia he was yelling at me that my stomach falls in too heavily and he is really worried about it but I just cant stand belly fat on me this is just not possible for me. But I feel like if I would get weight again it would stick to my belly aswell so dont be worried about that its just normal. I wish my fat would only go on my bewbs then I would MAAAAYYBEEEE think about getting a tiny bit of weight I dont know lawl. Dunno how your thoughts about belly fat are but since I am trans and I am pretty tall for a woman (1.78 metres) I try to look slim by being thin since my bones arent that tiny and whenever I have a little bit just a tiny bit of weight on it I look like a dyke.
You have to be careful though, without fat the body will not allow your breasts to develop and you risk a number of health complications.
The way the body works is that it will delay or halt breast development until it believes the environment favourable to bear children and for them to survive, in cis women the body can also stop a girl from having her periods for the same reasons. It's a natural defence and energy conservation mechanism, from an evolutionary standpoint if there isn't enough food and energy to go around then is very doubtful a child can be successfully carried to term and fed throughout it's childhood so why waste some of that precious energy on boobs.
When I got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes my body had burned all the fat (I could not even sit down because it hurt so bad when my bones rested on chairs), also all my muscle was gone since my body had cannibalized itself for energy, I was probably around 75kg and I looked horrible, like a walking skeleton. I'd say currently my ideal weight is probably around 81-82kg which sounds high but that's just my build and bone structure, everyone is different.
My plan (when I eventually get onto HRT..) is to eat a lot and exercise, hoping that aerobic/anaerobic exercise will cause me to generally shed weight whilst HRT will help the weight I'm putting back on go to the right places.
Ahlexandrah, having seen your pictures in "You look fabulous" I can say you have a stomach most of us here would envy (including me). If you chose to do so you I think you could get away with eating a little more. If you're not happy with how that is going you could always stop again. I apologise if it sounds like I'm telling you what to do :(
For me that sounds like the best plan too, just came back from a 100km cycling trip, now I can munch on nuts and sunflower seeds, good fats :)

It does not work.
Hey Galaxy, would you be willing to elaborate and share your experience?
So far I've been able to keep the weight off but I've only been on hormones for 2 weeks, just wondering what to expect.

I'll work my ratio out soon (what does it mean by the way? :) )
My weight is currently hovering around 69-70 kg, height 6'1" /185 cm (tall bitch lol).
Hips 94 cm / 37 inches
Waist 68 cm / 26.75 inches
Bust 89 cm / 35 inches (great to finally have something I can call a bust even if they are tiny lol)
Kinda skinny but it's more just kind of long bone structure.
alright
hips 96 cm
waist 76 (gah, really need to work on that)
bust 94
i hope these will improve over time :)
im 1.77cm and 67 kg

The ratio is equal to [(Waist/Bust) + (Waist/Hips)] / 2
In my case this was [(32/38) + (32/38)] / 2
or since they were both the same just 32 divided by 38 XD
I find myself in the strange position that although, I've dropped a fair bit of weight in the last 6 months, fat I'm gaining now is already going to my chest despite not having started HRT. I'm getting a little worried that it might impede natural breast development :(

At the beginning of my HRT i planed to gain my weight after 6 month of hormones. I knew that hormones take a while to work - so i made my plans after that what doctors say and they say fat distribution will begin after 6 month. So i was gaining my weight a little at this point. After increasing it by 1-2 kg i recognized that all the fat goes to the belly, not to the hips or to the breast. Gaining the weight by another 1-2kg (64kg now) over 1 year i got the same result. The hips are 1-2cm bigger than before, but my waist and my belly too. So gaining the weight only makes you fat - nothing more. Thats my story.
Pre-HRT
Over bust : 38"
Under bust : 33.5"
Waist : 33"
Hips : 39"
Weight : 165lb
9 months into HRT
Over bust : 37"
Under bust : 31"
Waist : 27"
Hips : 37"
Weight : 144lb
Ratio : 0.73
I'm still losing weight and eating healthily. Lost most of my weight in my waist in the first few weeks when I started the LCHF diet back in May 2014. Losing on average now about 1-2lb per week whilst still eating healthily three meals a day. Before that I couldn't lost the bulk around the waist. It was stuck at 32" unchanged.
My waist is 28" (sometimes 27", if I haven't eaten much) and my hips are 36", giving me 0.78. But I'm relatively tall (for a girl, anyway - 5'10" / 178cm) so you can't really tell, and while there's still a bit of male distribution fat going on I don't have a whole load left to lose (I'm 9 stone 7 / 133 lb / 60kg), and my hips haven't increased or changed size to any degree worth mentioning over 9 months or HRT.
I suspect that putting on weight would help with this (and with breasts getting bigger), but then I could probably say goodbye to the waist, so...
Thanks for sharing,
For me my logic is to exercise more and eat more in the hope that the higher metabolism will encourage growth in the right places without adding to my belly because I know the opposite (starving or very reduced caloric intake) inhibits growth.

Hello Galaxy,
I have been on the LCHF (low carb high fat) diet since May. There are many books and articles on the internet about how to do this diet.
My three meals a day typically
Breakfast
2 fried eggs
2 slices streaky bacon
1 halved fried tomato
5 fried mushrooms
all above fried with coconut oil, which is said to increase metabolism
Lunch
1 portion (half side) of smoked mackerel
2 small chicken thighs
1 generous handful of baby leaf salad
4 baby tomatoes
I keep breakfast and lunch the same during the working week to simplify things, but weekends I vary with other menu choices. For example avocado and mackerel with lime juice and olive oil is a nice breakfast also.
Dinner
This is can be anything that is meat and vegetable based. Usually limit amount of protein to about the area and thickness of palm of hand. Too much protein can convert to glycogen which body would store in fat cells. Vegetables selected are not starchy or root vegetables and should be the greater portion of the meal.
Most of my exercise I do is during the weekend when I am shopping. So get about 2 to 3 hours walking. It is during the weekend I notice the weight loss. Also it has been said that once onto this diet after a month, doing exercise before eating breakfast will cause the body to use the fat stores for energy as it has adjusted to a ketogenic diet.
Before I started this way of eating I used to feel so tired and lethargic when I woke in the mornings. I would have the alarm clock try and wake me several times. However now I usually wake when I feel I have had enough sleep and before the alarm clock tells me. I feel ready to start the day and can take my time to prepare a hearty breakfast and packed lunch without feeling starved.
Thanks a lot.
I will try to reduce my carbs in a stronger way!
Bust 34 :( 31.5 under bust
Waist 27
Hips 35
weight 128
Height 5'6"1/2
Not sure what my pre measurements were....I really didn't care too much. But I was wearing a size 28 men's jeans just before hrt. I now wear a size 4-6 dress and 0-3 jeans. I also had close to a six pack back then but was skinny. I had absolutely no belly then. Now I weigh 10 pounds less but have a belly UGH!! I actually bought some Spanx when I had to wear a dress for an engagement....my belly was showing!! and it especially shows in maxi dresses....but does give me more of a feminine look.....but I still don't like it!!
One measurement I did take at about 6 months into hrt was my thighs. I remember I had 19" thighs then and now have 21" not sure when that happened, I never noticed!!
Carbs are usually the real culprit, my carb intake is usually no more than 80g per day, that's the equivalent of one small order of McDonald's fries, not that I ever eat fries or any junk food, candy and very rarely any pasta, bread, rice, potatoes or any of the other high carb foods.
My diet is usually:
One cup of Fibre1 for breakfast, 1% milk
Salad or small wrap for lunch, occasionally I'll have some fish, chicken etc.
For dinner I'll allow myself a bit more, make a salad with some peanuts, walnuts or pecans, I add chicken, tuna or some fish.
That plus 45 minutes of cardio every day seems to do the trick for me.

Bust : 40" (under bust 40", of course)

Bust : 45" (under bust 38")
Waist : 30"

Waist-to-hip ratio : 0.68
Huh. I'm not skinny by any means, but that's not a bad hourglass, I guess.
I think my under bust is like 34 or 33 I can't remember but I know I fall within a cis woman's proportions. Like my shoulders used to be 20-22 inches but since losing that muscle mass completely its down to 17 inches. My physique is finally back to the feminine body I had when I was a teenager, well at least mostly.
its interesting to see everyone else's measurements tho, good to know for buying clothes. You can't go wrong if you know your measurements.
You cant go wrong ... maybe.
When i going to buy a jeans a get a lot of problems. My waist need a Size L (european Size 40) and my hips are Size S (Size 36) only. So i get no fitting jeans for me. All my skinny and super skinny jeans fits on the waist perfectly but not in the lower region around the butt. It looks not feminine without hips and butt.
I know what you're talking about their galaxy I have no hips or but unfortunately may have to get butt and hip pad underwear
Im still carrying a little extra weight at 190 lbs im 5ft 10" but im pretty happy with my measurements at this point, im sure i can lose a bit from the waist its just losing weight has become so much harder since starting hrt i have actually put on weight
Waist 34"
Hips 42"
Bust 37"
Underbust 35"
Just measured as I got out of the shower,
bust: 38
underbust: 34
waist: 32
hips: 37
6' 160lbs
I got teased a lot growing up for having a "girly" body, tall skinny teen (and older) boys aren't supposed to have boobs and an hourglass shape...oh well, I didn't mind at all and it made me at least feel a little better about myself :)

Bust: dunno, I didn't measure because I'm pre-HRT so that means total flat chest. ugh
Waist: 72 cm, 28.3
Hips: 90 cm, 35.4
Height: 167 cm, 5'5 1/2 maybe slightly more, idk
Waist-to-hip ratio: 0.8 wut omg o.o
I'm sorry if I posted the conversions incorrectly! I don't know how to use them and I'm European so yeah, the feet and inches may be wrong.
Edited: Converted into inches only.
Hmm, strangely I have never measured myself. I just look at myself and think, I look okay (or not in those cases when I didn't feel I did). I am getting my hips back though since that time that I was off of the hormones, even though I am unable to take an accurate reading, I can see the difference.

You lost 8" on the waist and 4" more on the hips???? :o
What have you done? Cutting some rips out and put implants on the hips?
No joke ... what happend there?
Galaxy : HRT, mostly. I've been getting back into exercising better and trying to eat more healthily, but I can't really take credit for it. The waist change took at least the whole 4.5 years; my hips and butt developed a bit quicker, but still weren't really even noticeable to people who aren't me until around 3 years.
I'm definitely overweight, though, which helps when it comes to fat depositing in new areas. (And I still have a belly, but it's below where the waist is measured, so those measurements sound more curvy than I think I look.)
I quit measuring myself regularly at around a year on HRT - I did it just now because of this thread :) - but at that point I was 43"-36"-42".
Since I don't have one of those soft measuring tapes used for body measuring, I used a shoe lace (taking care not to stretch it when wrapping it around me), pinched the spot where it meets the snuggest, then still holding that spot placed it on the kitchen floor (extended straight but not stretching) next to extended tape measure (the stiff metal ones used for measuring other things - I had used that prior to thinking of using the shoe lace and measurements were close but higher by at least and inch or half), took down measurements. I retested again using my dog's leash since it don't stretch, had the same results so I'm good.
Measurements taken:
Bust 34"
Under bust 31.5"
Waist 30"
Hips 37"
Weight 140lbs
Height 5'9" (maybe 5'10" [never had an accurate measure of my height, but somewhere around there anyway])
Well, now, I think its time to go shopping for me. ;)
Other measurements (taken for the fun of it):
Inseam 32"
Thighs 21.5" each
Ankles 9.25"
Biceps (flexed) 12" (left slightly more, right slightly less)
Wrists 6.75"
Shoulder Width 18" (from farthest visible edges of one shoulder to the other)
Shoulders 40" (measuring around)
Maybe I should measure my skull and brain while I'm at it. :P
I don't understand that ratio stuff (I'm really terrible at math) but used an online calculator http://www.csgnetwork.com/hwcratiocalc.html for my results:
waist to hips 0.81
waist to chest 0.88
chest to hips 0.92
...so what am I supposed to click in the poll?

Average of waist to hips and waist to bust is 0.845 so that's the .80 to .85 category where many of us seem to fall :D
I wonder how well we represent the entire community, for one I think the thought of posting numbers scares off some girls, I also wondered how we would compare against the average female.
I've read some recent studies which indicate that the average for women in the Western Hemisphere is between 0.79 and 0.83 depending on which source you believe and the area the study was done in.
I think as a group we're doing pretty good :D
Oh okay, I get it. :)

Antonia, great thread here...I am learning a lot here, still more to learn of course.
I am 8 weeks on HRT.
I probably will need to get a professional measurement soon, in any case. I DEFINITELY have female breasts. I will for sure have to have breast exams for the rest of my life. :) :) :)
It is hard to fully describe the euphoric harmonious happiness I feel 90% of the time now.
I do not "need" a bra as such quite yet. I probably will soon.

While I know what my measurements are, I don't know how to do the math to get my ratio. I'll gladly post them/it if someone can fill me in on how to obtain my ratio from my measurements.
Bust, 37"
Underbust, 32"
Waist, 27"

Using the online calculator Megan used my ratios are:
Waist to hips, 0.71
Waist to chest, 0.84
Chest to hips, 0.84

According to Antonia's formula on page #1 the above is 27/((37+38)/2) = 0.72

39/30/37 for me currently, giving 0.79 ratio. I'm 6'1"/149lbs for context. (If I just do waist-to-hip it's 0.81.)
I measured in the last two weeks to check fluctuations. Two weeks ago yielded 0.80 and last week it was 0.815, so don't read much into small differences in your ratio. Not sure how important this all is given that I see cis women of any ratio all the time, particularly many with the exact inverse of an hourglass these days. Interesting to see the stats nonetheless. Seems I'm dead-center in the average for those who entered their ratios.
I've lost some more weight and re-measured myself.
My waist is now down to 26" this takes my ratio down to 0.70

Yup. The lower the better it seems as it fits into the perceived ideal of between 0.67 and 0.8.
Quote
Research shows that women who fall within the 0.67 to 0.8 range are healthier. The chances of developing diabetes or having a heart attack have been found to depend more on the distribution of fat than on its volume, in addition to other factors.
A low waist-hip ratio is also linked to fertility. Not only is a wasp-waisted female likely to be healthy, she is also likely to be more fertile than her thicker-waisted sisters. Women with a low ratio, Professor Singh says, tend to start ovulating younger, and those with a high ratio find it more difficult to become pregnant and tend to have children later.
Although a high waist-hip ratio most commonly goes with being overweight, it can also be found in women of normal weight who have high testosterone levels - a condition that is also associated with being hairy, infertile and having a 'male' body shape.
The second paragraph is unlikely to be relevant to any of us regarding actual fertility.

I need to shed some pounds in the waist. Would be nice to simply relocate fat from one place to some others :-)
Height - 5' 11"
Been on HRT for over a year now.
While my ratio is good I have to agree with Leila that I'm probably not about to get pregnant any time soon.
Wait how does the math work again?
You know what, forget it, I really hate math.
How about "obtuse hourglass?" Does that make any sense? (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Foi57.tinypic.com%2Fk9vn61.jpg&hash=fd11f568b0c239ff4740248457f0a00d0e5d59b3)

Yup. The lower the better it seems as it fits into the perceived ideal of between 0.67 and 0.8.
I guess at 0.79-0.8 I'm just toeing the line then! Now if only my hips would keep pace with my bust.

Are you sure it's the hourglass that's being obtuse here? ;)

Never heard of such a thing Ev, could you describe an "obtuse hourglass?"

Perhaps something like this?

Dammit, now I want one of these. I'm such a geek... ::)
I can't get any decent physical female proportions. My upper body being bigger than my lower body. Trying to get fat on my hips and butt compared to the upper body is difficult plus my boobs are too small and my belly is bigger than my boobs!
I still have a slight tummy to lose which, as long as this awful weather keeps up will be impossible due to my being stuck indoors getting little to no physical activity. Until I lose it I could benefit from one of those garments that hold your tummy in. I just don't know where to get one.

Bust: 99 cm (39 inches)
Underbust: 88 cm (34.6 inches)
Waist: 83 cm (32.7 inches)
Hips: 96 cm (37.8 inches)
So... Waist-to-hip ratio is about 0.86
Still need to lose a lot of weight, so I hope to change those numbers =P

^slight variation of measurements but definitely a trend :D At 180lbs I'm right where healthy body weight meets overweight.
Wow, a treasure trove of information, definitely shows a positive trend :)

Formula: waist/(hip+bust/2)
I'll do mine as an example
B39
W33
H39
First add your hip and bust together: 39+39=78
Divide that number by 2: 78/2 =39
Finally, divide you waist by this number: 33/39=0.8461538461538462 <Final Answer!
Ok then mine is 0.77 but I just started HRT for a week with no changes yet (only on E)
Chest: 37" (without a bra and chicken fillets)
Waist: 31"
Hips: 39"
Ratio: 0.82
Not surprising, I have a fairly rectangular shape. I'm working out to lose more weight in the midsection and build a bit of muscle in the hips. Wearing a bra and fillets brings the bust up to 40". I also decided to measure my shoulders, which go to 42"! However, they usually look like they're the same width as my hips in even my male clothes.
EDIT - measured myself again and got:
Chest: 36"
Waist: 30"
Hips: 38"
I also weigh 71kg (or 156lbs, or 11st 2lbs). It seems to fluctuate between 69kg and 71kg.
Well my measurements really haven't changed even after 3 months of HRT but I have noticed that fat is filling in where I used to have muscle.
Bust was 34.5" flat pre hrt
now 34 under 34.5 over
Waist varies from 26" to 28" depending on food intake
Hips are 34.5
So I'm somewhere between a .754 and a .812
I am around 5'8" and weigh about 127lbs.

Emily you look amazing for just 1 week on HRT!
Johanna.
My measurements are
106 cm / 41.7 in
96 cm / 37.8 in
102 cm / 40.2 in
That results in a 0.92 ratio.
Unfortunately I'm overweight but try to loose weight.
do you use the underbust or overbust to work out the ratio
My pre-HRT measurements about a month ago were:
Height: 5'10''
Weight: 150 lbs
Bust 35.5 inches
Waist 27.5 inches
Hip 36 inches
So 0.77 Waist to Bust-Hip Ratio. 0.76 Waist / Hip. Not a bad start but hopefully HRT does some magic.
Bust: 38 1/2
Under: 37
Waste: 30
Hips: 38
Mine is too terrible to measure. In my early years I had a nice hour glass figure but not today. I need to exercise my mid section much more.
5.7 @ 207
Chest: 39
Bust: 42
Waist: 38
Hips: 38
I was digging through my old posts and came across my old measurements at 5 months of hrt:
Bust 34
Waist 28
Hips 36
and now two and a half years later of hrt, from my first post in this thread.
Bust 37.5
Waist 28
Hip 39.5
My waist hasn't really changed, which is a good thing I guess. I should start doing situps. I wonder what measurements will be in 2 years, especially since I might be having surgery by then.
Hi hi! Thought I might join in on the fun here :3
I haven't done pre hrt measurements and my measurements are after 5 months hrt.
Chest: 83 cm
Waist: 68 cm
Hips: 90 cm
Ratio: 0.79
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 60 kg
Doesn't seem too bad until the 41 inch shoulders (around, not across) I have factor into this haha...
Bust - 40
Under - 36
Waist - 32
Hips - 41.5
Ratio: 0.77
Weight: 170
Height: 5'7"
I'm pre HRT though, hope it's good to me. :)
I don't have a pre HRT measurement but 3 months in is:
Bust: 37
Underbust: 35
Waist: 33
Hips: 36
So this gives me a hip to waist ration of 0.90410
Weight is 67.3kg
Height is 168cm
I've been on HRT for 19 months:
Overbust: 32
Bust:36
Underbust: 31
Waist: 25
Hips: 34.5
I'm 5'5 and suffer from other conditions, so these numbers houldn't be taken as a representation and also it doesn't look as good as it sounds---at all. I look like a C cup, at best, but yeah my waist looks very small combined with very narrow shoulders. But still only a cutish butt, nothing big.
Bust 34"
waist 25"
hips 34"
weight 120 lbs
height 5'5"
