So far, in my years of putting first one toe in the water of gender non-conformity, then another, I've never understood why anyone would want to do make-up, jewelry, or nail polish.
Until yesterday.
I was getting ready to go out and had put on a green dress I'd just (mostly) finished and, in a fit of daring, some JMS* fuchsia tights I'd found at a Walmart (but it's not shown on their website! Oh, JMS, I feel so betrayed! I thought we had no secrets from one another!), and I thought, something's missing, I need something to match the tights. I tried putting on a pink T-shirt under the dress, but the lettering showed and it generally looked awful.
Then I thought: if only my fingernails matched the tights!
IOW: nail polish!
I didn't put any on, mostly because I didn't have any, and anyway it'll take a while for me to reconcile my rather masculine features with something like nail polish, but I can see it on the horizon.
* JMS = Just My Size, a brand name for plus-sized hosiery.
I have never thought of using nail polish color to compliment outfits, but upon thinking more about it, it makes sense!
I love wearing black nail polish whenever I get the chance, I usually keep my nails clipped short due to nervous habits of picking them but reading your post has prompted me to try growing my nails out, even if its just a little to be able to put nail polish on them.
Playing around with clothing and breaking the line of gender conformity is fun! There are plenty of dream outfits I have, just need to lose weight to fit into them haha
Fashion is sometimes a uniform of sorts, sometimes it is a uniform...
But when looked at as an art form, a kind of living moving form of art, it is indeed fun.
Finding a different way that colors can flow, mix, contrast with another...
Finding the flow of fabric itself, even the confining of it against a body...
It's something to behold, just as any art form should be.
We may or may not like a way it is done, but it is an art form, none the less.
It's an extension of our selves as an expression.
There's a lot that can be said and done with it as art.
