Title: Ftm feeling very uncomfortable in social situations?
Post by: Alexm167 on August 11, 2014, 01:00:31 PM
I'm, ftm but haven't began properly transitioning yet. I joined a photography club this week and I'm the only 'girl'. As I haven't began transitioning yet, I feel very uncomfortable dealing with other people. Today was my first day at the club and I felt like I couldn't be myself and everyone kept saying 'she' which made me feel even worse. Feeling like this is making me want to stay home and never have to deal with people. One guy was surprised and. thought I was much younger which made me feel worse again. Also when school starts back I have to wear a skirt, I don't know how I'm going to deal with that but I can't change schools. Please can anyone give me advice, thank you

mod/edit out personal info.

Hey Alex!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm not able to transition where i'm at either, so it's very hard when you feel male but your body is like... 100% female. Some advice that i can offer you is that little things matter. All the little things.

Things I've done: got a haircut! Haircuts are surprisingly uplifting and gave me a huge boost of confidence. If you can't cut the hair for some reason, just pin it back! Hey, you might be warm that day or something >> Also, getting male scents or deodorant that you can wear. If you can't bind, try other 'slimming' bras and whatnot. Sports bras n' junk. Not to mention they're way better than snapping on something with a stupid wire *shudder* ugh.

I assume you're younger? If the case of the skirt is a uniform, then my heart goes out to you as that's how I climbed through school. In an awful skirt. But hey, even though you have to be that way at school doesn't mean you're any less of a man. Get home, put on comfy clothes that make you feel good, and just be. Little moments like that help as well. Acting like your true self is the key. Confidence will come with time, I'm slowly learning this. xD

*hugs* You can do it!

Take the time and see if you can find a gender therapist that you can talk with.
Also planned parenthood might also be a great help in dealing with your gender issues.
Now is the time to seek out some good help and hopefully your family will be on board with help.
