I've been following a slow path, working with HR and my boss. Monday, August 11th, I passed another milestone when I came out to my co-workers. The reception seemed positive, a few were clearly relieved that it wasn't a "serious" health issue (just a serious mental health issue but I didn't burden them with that). After the meeting was officially over, and all I did during the "official" meeting was read my statement, as per HR's instructions, I told folks if there were questions I would answer them. There were a few, I answered those to the best of my abilities, then we all broke up and went home. Since we mostly work from home, and we only get together every other Monday, there are only a few days per month when I can do this without forcing everyone to drive to the office unnecessarily.
Now that this milestone is passed, the next one is the courts. HR has said that I can socially transition at work once the legal documents are changed. I hope to do that next month.
For the last year, I've been living female when at home, which as I note is more than 90% of my time. This will be the final hurdle towards putting "him" away for good. Once that court order is in hand, bank accounts, credit cards, driver's license, social security, a new passport, it will all get done and the last vestiges of "him", including the few remaining male clothes in my closet will be gone. :)
