An unidentified trans woman was attacked in a New York City subway station recently, and the attack was caught on film.

I hate to observe several things:

1. Yes the guy was a loud-mouthed, abusive bigot, but partway through the video he is quite willing to walk away. The woman jumps on him from behind and draws him into the fight.

2. After that point, when he's holding her by her hair, he seems like he's just trying to keep her off him until she calms down or until helps come. He's got at least 100 lbs. on her and at that point he could easily have ended it by slamming her against the floor, but it seems like he's just trying to keep them both safe.

I hate to be in the position of defending someone who's obviously a bigot, but I really don't think this is a case of him trying to do her major physical harm.
