Title: Bone fusion?
Post by: emilyking on August 17, 2014, 12:56:32 AM
So, I thought after a certain age our bone fuse and don't really change anymore.
All my life, I've had a more pointy head (female thing, I've learned).
However being on estrogen for a year now, my pointy head isn't as pointy as it use to be.

Kinda confused.

Maybe it's not due to the bone but the padding? Not sure how you measure for head pointiess! ;)

No, it's definitely the bone.
There used to be about an inch wide mound down my skull, but now it's even with the rest of the skull.  So, if I run my fingers over it, you can't feel anything protruding.

What I'm thinking, is since I've basically been on low dose estrogen all my life, maybe having higher doses now my body is finishing up?

Hard to say. I wouldn't think so but who knows. The skull isn't one bone but made up of a number of plates, I guess it's possible one of them has shifted somehow. Whether it's related to HRT you'd need to ask a doctor.

Bone is far more plastic than people are lead to believe.  It does flex somewhat under load, and it's density can change over time according to how much it is loaded.

There are muscles over the scalp - they can change in size and shape - are you sure it's not that that has changed?

A:  All of your aquired knowledge making your brain expand- thus making your head change shape to accommodate.
B: You are forgetting lots so no longer qualify as an 'egg head'.

:)

But seriously that is very interesting, do post if you find out what could cause that.

btw my surname is King too.  Distant relatives perhaps?

I'm sure it's bone.  There's still a little part where the three plates fuse where there's still a little pointyness.
The first time I became aware of my pointy head was fifth grade, when we did hand stands.  The pressure Hurt my head.
When I first discovered my skull was shaped as females, I found out the females tend to have rather pointy heads, due to how it tapers off the top.  So, I'd say this is really recent.

That would be funny if we where related.  My Dad lives in Illinois, but I live in beautiful Colorado.
