Title: Getting the last bit of T out of the Vial
Post by: David27 on August 21, 2014, 08:15:25 AM
I'm close to being finished with my vial and I was wondering how many mL one gets out vs the number of mL initially in the vial.

Also if I don't inject air into the vial will the vacuum help me get the stuff out easier?

What I currently inject is Insulin, so things may vary a wee bit - but it still is an injectable medication.

You want to inject air into the vial before you withdraw the medication.  This equalizes pressure and makes it easier for the medication to flow into the syringe.

Usually the vial contains a bit more than the nominal contents.  This is because it is hard to get the last little bit.  For Insulin I can get most of it - but I am using a 31 gauge half inch needle.  For the longer and maybe a bit coarser needle to inject T it will be harder to manipulate the needle to get the last bit of medication without drawing air into the syringe.

This is my advice being a cheap so-and-so.  Medical professionals do not risk trying to get the last drop.
