Title: Does HRT slow facial hair growth by any level?, some?, none?
Post by: FrancisAnn on September 01, 2014, 12:40:06 PM
I apologize some & know this topic has been discussed a million times. However does HRT slow facial hair growth any? Some? None at all?

Like most of us it's just so frustrating & doing my best with electrolysis. My body hair has responded nicely & I have far less hair. It seems my facial hair has slowed in growth but I'm unsure.

Thanks MTF GF's.

When I was on estrogen and spiro pre-op it sure seemed like it. Now that I'm on estrogen and finasteride post-op it seems to have picked up :P

I thought it was all in my head! Mine has slowed being on "E", "P" and Spiro. Seems to be finer in texture, but no thinning noted.  :)

I had some thinning in a few spots and hrt definitely slowed the growth but it wasn't until laser that they started dying out completely.

I was really lucky.

A couple of months into HRT, quite a few of my thicker male facial hairs simply fell out. These were then replaced with finer hairs that grew much slower. Through a combination of E and laser most of the hairs have ceased to grow at all. Those that do still grow are very fine, generally only spotted with 12x magnification mirror and in the past I would have lasered them with a Tria. Ten months later, I have so few hairs now it isn't worth getting the Tria out and I tweeze the odd few really fine dark hairs that sprout out.

It didn't for me, but that's just me. I wish!

I don't think that there was a significant difference but it was hard to tell with laser, electro etc

Thanks to all girls or women that replied. It's nice to see some girls were very lucky. I'm sure not one of them. Back to my electrolysis lady to get zapped more this fall & winter. I'm glad she is nearby, a very nice woman & really does not charge me very much. I've had 10 sessions so at least some areas are clean.

My facial hair has absolutely slowed. Probably 1/2 as fast as it used to be.

I think I need to find a girl friend who owns her own electrolysis business.

Like you, Francis Ann, my body hair has changed nicely and my skin feels so nice and soft but my facial hair is tenacious and tiresome.  Even after laser the blond hairs need to get fried, plucked, or shaved daily.  Julie let me try her body hair epilator which seemed too ouchy for this girl.  I will likely join the ranks visiting the professional electrologists but not looking forward to it.  I don't think my facial hair grows any slower and if wishes were fishes my boatload would be whisker free.

I was lucky. My lady had terrible facial hair as a girl & young woman. She had to shave the morning of her first wedding. Later in life she learned the craft & is so nice to me & others with hair removal. Now she is a beautiful woman with such smooth skin. So their are others out there if you call & look hard enough. Oh she is busy, we mtF girls are certainly not the only ones with facial hair. My lady told me she has treated cis women that have more facial hair than I have so at least that's some comfort I guess. Good luck GF's.

For me it slowed some. Electro as much and as fasr as u ca is the only thing that will kill the evil, terrible curse.

In coming out to my mother Saturday night I found out that she's had electrolysis so she completely understood what it's like and how painful it is. She's on steroids for arthritis and they've caused hair growth on her face. When I told her that anyone who doubts the intentions or seriousness in which one approaches transitioning just needs to sit for a session of electro she laughed. It was nice to have some mother-daughter commiserating.

My electrologist says she can tell a difference in people pre- and post-HRT so there's some hope there. She also said my facial hair is about half as dense as normal which I believe is due to being IS. She says my time to full clearance will be shorter than most.

I can't say with any certainty what specifically has affected my facial hair growth.  There's just too many factors.  I'm also pretty sure my HRT doses have not yet been ramped up to the final target my doctor is aiming for.  That said, I'll be celebrating my HRT anniversary this month.

I did 13 sessions of laser before starting HRT and this was extremely effective on me.  I was shaving only once a week after that to be satisfied in male-mode at least.

At about seven months into HRT I began three hours per week of electrolysis.  This is still on-going and I've gotten through about 60 hours at this point.  My technician believes firmly that HRT helps accelerate the process and she's quite pleased with my progress.  She says I had finer hairs starting out and less density than many of her cis female clients, although in many cases those clients are fighting against hormonal imbalances which have brought on the hair growth.  She finds their condition much harder to treat when they are not using medication to restore their normal hormone levels.

Most of the growth on my face now is white/blond and everything is fine and sparse enough that I don't worry about hiding it when traveling to my electrolysis appointments in girl-mode.  (I've bravely gone in girl mode since the beginning though - it builds strength of character.)  I haven't shaved any longer since starting electro and as a result my skin is literally singing with joy!

It's nice to see that most of you GF's are organized on this hair removal issue. Probably most of you are better organized than me. I'm sure HRT will help. I started with electro work last year but I had to stop for almost 4 months getting ready for my major facelift/eyelid surgery then making absolutely sure my face had healed enough to resume treatments. Anyway thanks to all for your experiences.

For me, only some. It probably helped electrolysis a bunch though. I have an odd phenomenon from the whole experience, tiny, vellus hairs. Kind of cool, actually.

My endo explained a while ago that a lack of T can cause hormonal hair to weaken, although I didn't notice anything. Growing rates are still steady, and the little buggers are still hard to kill.

After 18 months of electrolysis, I'm almost done. I'm down to mostly blond hairs around my chin and jaw line, and a few on my upper lip. Still slow going...

Although it probably doesn't help that my skin developed an allergic reaction to galvanic electrolysis ( in blend or just DC )... It would take ~2 weeks for the redness to heal after a session, which just isn't possible to deal with now. So now I have only thermolysis, which is fine, just isn't as effective.

Has definitely slowed. Probably only finer because I had it waxed a few times. Doubt it would have thinned if I hadn't started zapping it with electrolysis.
