Title: sharing with sis
Post by: Kaydee on September 08, 2014, 08:51:05 PM
I came out to my sister while we were at a family reunion this summer.  She was very supportive and we were able to get some quiet time together and enjoyed couple of good talks.  Unlike the other members of my family she wasn't afraid to talk about my transgender issues and asked a lot of good questions.  She was moving this summer and so I tried not to ask much of her while things were up in the air.

We have begun some regular emails and she continues being my greatest supporter.  It is so good to be able to be open to someone about this after hiding it ... forever?   Anyway she said the following in her latest email and I had to share it.

So, I will try not to over process, and simply be enthusiastic for your future! After all, its not everyone who is lucky enough to get the sister she always wanted, without losing her brother in the process. Changed, but not lost!

What more can I ask for from my little sis? :) :)

Awwww... Make sure you give her the biggest hug the next time you see each other, and tell her she's the best little sister ever! :)

She "sounds" more supportive than my sister ever was, but only by a bit, even so, I REALLY hope she meant it, I REALLY hope it all works out. Sadly, this sounds similar to how it all started with me and my "sister". -_-

I do recommend you seek a gender therapist though and keep coming here in your time of need. Best of luck to you both!

Thanks - I am glad you agree.  It is just nice to have that kind of support from family!

Oh, I have been working with a gender therapist since January.   I don't know what I would have done without her help.   Its just nice to have someone non-professional with whom I can share.

Sorry that things did not work with your sister.

She is so cool, will she adopt me as a sister?

On a serious note, I am very happy for you. Support and welcoming is so important for the both of you.

My sister would hate me if I mentioned anything to do with this, as that is who she is. She saw a picture I took of a selfie of my boobs by accident and she already hated it without me admitting anything.

I guess I am lucky to have a mostly accepting family.  It helps that we were all brought up in a fairly liberal household, if rather redneck town.   Sorry your sister is not accepting of you.  I know that has to hurt.
