Title: Placebo effect or ?
Post by: Pebblez on September 08, 2014, 09:35:30 PM
Sorry about the title and this thread was made out of boredum not worrying or something like that.

Starting off I want to say that I dont obsess or anything but do think about this when I take pills.

I was wondering is it bad to dissuade yourself from believing any changes are going to happen?
I have heard in the past people talk about a positive mindset can actually affect physical changes and was wondering if there was any science behind it. I feel I will reject the idea of changes any time soon(8-10 months) and chalk any changes I do notice as just psychological wants, with the except of things that are impossible to dismiss I.e breast tenderness/ growth. I am just curious to know if anyone here believes that the placebo effect would cause possitive effects or none at all.

I haven't slept for 2 days now because of insomnia and all that so please excuse any incorrect grammer or statements that do not make sense.

Changes will happen or not happen regardless of what mindset you're in. When you're in a mindset of, "Oh my gosh, everything is going to change now," then you start to see things that may not necessarily be there. You start scrutinizing things you've never scrutinized before, and thinking things like, "Well, I don't remember that being that way before. HRT must have altered it." I feel this is where a lot of the more... uhh... unusual claims come from. And yeah, being here for 9 months, I've heard just about everything under the sun attributed to HRT at one point or another. :P

I think you're taking a logical approach.

It's always good to think positive whenever possible, but beyond that, does it really matter?

As a Paramedic I saw people survive just by sheer will power and belief from injuries that should have killed them. A positive mind set will help you overcome nearly all obstacles in life and will definitely affect your body in some way. Belief is a strange and wonderful thing and to have it is like having a super antibiotic in you. So yes, the mind can influence the body. I would suggest you tape and weigh before HRT and every six months only after. That will show you concrete proof that the meds either are or are not working. Just because you may not respond immediately just remember your levels have to be just right and that may take a while.  :)
