Title: Will masturbation effect testosterone?
Post by: JennyH on September 09, 2014, 08:11:05 AM
I was wondering if masturbating could increase testosterone levels. Even though I don't like to masturbate anymore I do still have a sex drive and it is my only form of release. I worry that this will effect my T-levels even though I am on Spiro.

It didn't for me. I did a lot of "trying out my female sexual response" and my T-levels were always undetectable on blood tests.

Also, if you're interested in SRS, it helps prevent shrinkage, providing more tissue for the doctor to work with.

So let loose...

I used to know a girl who claimed masturbating actually decreased testosterone. I was always very skeptical of that, but I don't know.

No effect on T levels, but your eyesight might get worse. ;)

Go to town.

I keep it to once or twice a week or so and I hope it isn't affecting anything, because online there are just as many people saying it raises as people saying it lowers as people saying it doesn't do anything.

Chances are probably not, but if you're worried keep it to once or twice a week and it'll probably be all right. You'll also avoid the potential pain that I happened across when I didn't have an erection for a week+ and then induced one one day... not pleasant.

Speaking as an utter non expert I would think it is the other way around, that testosterone is what drives sexual desire and the need to seek release. Personally I'm really glad I no longer have the urge to masturbate. That's not just from the Spiro and E but also my anti depression med (which lists loss of libido as a side effect).

I think I read somewhere that if you don't have a release for a week or so, testosterone levels increase a little bit, which makes you hornier.

Grace is correct.

From a logical, scientific, even "common sense" standpoint, if playing with oneself had any meaningful correlation with raised or lowered T levels - to the extent that it could even come close to counteracting the effects of spiro - then why would we need spiro at all?

Teenage boys would have T levels close to zero (if T was reduced by the act), or they'd all be 'roid-raging muscle beasts (if T was increased).  And what about girls?

The fact is that it has no meaningful effect.  Do it five times a day or once a month, doesn't matter.  Abstain or indulge as you prefer.

I think the confusion is arising because of a common misapplication of a basic rule of logic.  High T levels cause sexual desire (and the need to touch oneself inappropriately), but this doesn't mean masturbation raises T levels; high T levels are not caused by masturbation.  Similarly, low levels of T causes a lack of sexual urges (and low or no self abuse), but one cannot reverse the statement and claim that low T is caused by abstinence.

A causing B does not mean that B also causes A.

Don't obsess over this one, girls.  If you like doing it, then do it.  If you don't, then don't.  If you think your T or medication levels are wrong, see your endo.  :)

This was a really big concern for me too. While I hate masturbation I do love getting penetrated. If I remember correctly from when I asked my doctor about it, he said that the spikes in testosterone levels are so minor and short lived that you would have to orgasm for roughly 8 hours straight before it will effect your transition.

Can I do it until I need glasses?
