I am in the process of being hired for a Juvenile Detention Officer position in the state of Florida. I passed background check, and I took the drug test today which should get back in a couple days and when that comes back that I passed, I will be given the contract for employment. I asked about training and she said the first part is at the facility which is just reading and studying and then I'm getting sent with a bunch of people to an academy elsewhere. Now, I say corrections academy but the position I have is a bit different than a Corrections position. It isn't really law enforcement. So there's not even a physical requirement. Anyway, I'm EXTREMELY scared now about the sleeping/bathroom/shower situation. Heck, even washing the clothing because I do still wear a bra under my binder.
You guys don't think that they have like showers with everyone right? I really can't imagine sleeping in a binder for weeks. I'd be in extreme physical pain the whole time then. Please if anyone can chime in that has had experience or if I need to talk to people at the academy. I'm just extremely scared right now. I was so happy and excited that no one was gonna know about me being trans and now I feel like I'm gonna be out to the whole world again.
I would say they will have to make some protective arrangements to help you while you are in your transition.
Hi baby! If yours was anything like mine (Oklahoma) there will be at least one week of very intensive physical agony. It is called custody control week and it is kind of a living hell on Earth. I did have one FtM in my Academy class and he did not have any problems at all. Our bathrooms were all single stall as well as the showers. I hope this is the same school design you have as well. We have no physical requirement either, but custody and control week is exhausting and have had people dislocate joints, actually quit the Academy then or die of heart attacks if they were not somehow prepared for it. Ours kept us busy enough there was no time to worry about anything, but completing the course work. Firearms was the next hardest week as far as physicality. Ours was 6 weeks and you were there the whole time. I wish you the best!! :)
androidnick, great you got the job. All the newer physicality that I have seen, have individual bathroom/shower arrangements, sleeping could be with others. Can I ask why you are wearing a bra under your binder? Could you wear a t-shirt instead? Would your chest mounds show if you wore male pj to bed? Good luck in getting through the training period.
Hey mate. Congrats on the job!
Seems like the showering won't be an issue. And about the bra, I say get some handwashing done. That way, you won't have to get it washed and get questions. Just grab it, go take a shower and wash it with you, then leave it to dry somewhere private.
I forgot to mention our living arrangement's were two to a room like a college dorm. Most have done away with the squad bay idea. It is so much fun when the instructors set off the fire alarms when you are asleep after a long day! ::) Part of ours was sleep deprivation to see if you can think while tired. The food was excellent though, I gained 6 pounds! :) :)
Thank you SO much Jessica! You have no idea how much I have calmed down. I know that mine is only 3 weeks long and thankfully the physical training we get isn't going to be that bad. I know that much because my friend had to go through similar training through the department of Juvenile Justice and she said everything you learn is to defend yourself since we are working with minors rather than adults. And I know for a fact there is no firearms training. It just hit me that I could ask her about the sleeping arrangements.
And thank you so much to everyone else for the positive vibes. Yeah I'm thinking about finding some sports bras. My problem is that it is NOT possible to hide DDD chesticles even with a sports bra. And I wear a bra with a binder because I get chest sweat and I get more dysphoric if I feel my chest against my torso.

Thank you SO much Jessica!
Anytime! Good luck on the career!! :)
In another lifetime, I was a Corrections Officer here in Louisiana. The females had the college dorm style situation with a bathroom designed for one at a time. The guys....had the military barracks style housing with open bathrooms (no stalls) and open showers (a wall of showerheads).
I hope your area has the dorm style rooms! It is possible to talk to the staff? I'm guessing you are being hired as male from what you said.
androidnick, Good you have only 3 weeks of training. You will have ask about the accommodations before hand or be prepares for almost any possibilities. I think you could handle 2 guys to a room with a private bath. I can see where you have to plan on how to handle your DDD chesticles, I guess my 34B/C are not that big, thou they are fairly firm and take some compressing to get them as flat as I like. Your overall chest size most to be large enough that you can push them down and out when you bind. I can see where you would need to be very careful when getting dress and undressed. I think it would be very hard to wash and dry a bra in this setting; could you have several so you didn't need to wash any while you were there? Are you planning on top surgery soon? I don't know if you are on t, but could you get your shark week while you were in training?
I'm just gonna wait and see. After asking around I don't think it is going to be that bad. Not fun by any means but not as horrifying as I thought it would be. And no, shark week isn't an issue anymore.
