Title: venting about baseball game
Post by: spacerace on September 11, 2014, 12:49:51 AM
we just went to a pro baseball game, and I was given flack over and over again about looking too young to drink when I bought beer. One woman almost wouldn't sell it to me, and the alcohol cops who roam around came and sat next to us and carded me. They hassled my friend too, and sniffed his soda to make sure it didn't have liquor in it, even though he is 32. I'm 30.

Ughhh. Not being able to blend in anywhere even when I pass is really, really frustrating

coincidentally, my T dose was increased today, but I am still at 80% of what is called a 'normal dose', after 1 year

Is there anyway that you could make an anonymous complaint about the treatment you and your friend received at the game?  Congratulations on your T being increased!

Congratulations that you passed at the baseball game.

Don't worry about being carded because of your age. you probably look like at lot younger to them that they don't want to lose their liquor license by selling to someone under age. Even if you you go to a grocery store like jewel/osco to buy liquor and you are in the 70's they will card you.

Not everyone needs the same dose. That's why a good doctor or clinic will do regular labwork and adjust dosage as needed to get T levels within target range. For example, judging by my last labwork, I will not need what many sources call a "full dose" as a considerably lower dose has my T levels ~750s the day before a shot.

If your T levels are good at a lower dose, that just means the T lasts longer and you save money.

few days late getting back to this thread, but I wanted to say thanks for the replies and also revisit it in terms of just straight up getting over people thinking I am way young. It is time to just embrace it I believe.

I am trying to look at what happened at the baseball game positively now.

For example - The alcohol enforcement guys and the usher dudes in our seating area gave me a really drawn out, good-natured, ribbing about looking so young right after carding me.  As in, a huddle of guys standing around laughing at me for how I look.Guffaw laughing. It was not meant to be cruel - just amusement on their part.

That still sounds awful, right? However! If I reframe the entire situation to instead see it as really being treated as a guy by other guys in the same way they would make fun of any cis guy that looked really young. That's actually kinda neat, right? My ID has an M on it, so I am really lucky with that at least.

But, I will say, next game we go to, I will not buy beer at all. I am so close to getting over what used to be crippling social anxiety in major ways, and even if I have to make adjustments, I am not going to let stuff like this prevent me from having a good time, even if it means making concessions....on concessions...to not get hassled at a pro sports game.

That's exactly the way to look at it.  Guys give each other crap whenever possible about whatever possible.  So enjoy it, and learn to give it back.

I have a friend who is cis, and he has always looked young.  But when he wears a hat, he looks 15.  So of course people are always trying to get him to wear hats.  It's funny.

And someday you'll be glad you look young.  I never get carded...and I'm only 36.
