I had hysto a little over a month ago and I'm still injecting myself. My T dosage hasn't changed in a while but I'm nervous that since the ovaries and everything are gone, that the T might be getting converted back to estrogen if my dosage is too much. Has anyone had to reduce their dosage after hysto to make sure this doesn't happen? I'm just afraid of it happening and since I've had top surgery, I don't want those to grow back or whatever (if that's even possible).
From what I've read, not everyone needs to reduce their dose post-oophorectomy. You would need lab work done to know if your T levels are too high.
My t level at 8 weeks post hysto was lower than before, but my doctor still lowered my dosage, which was already low to begin with.
My endo said no need to change the dosage. I'll trust her.
I also had my hysto a little over a month ago and I've heard it both ways. My regular dr was away and the one taking over temporarily told me they would lower the dosage but when my regular dr came back they kept it as is but they are monitoring more closely with blood tests. I'm guessing there's no real answer since everyone's body is different but the blood tests will be the best way to tell for each person?
No blood tests for hormones, only liver, thyroid and kidney function plus the normal stuff. I don't know her reasoning, but so far, so good.
I had a hysto and oophorectomy over a year ago and have had several blood tests for hormone levels since...no dosage change at all from before hysto to now. My levels have remained stable.
I talked to my endo on the phone today and he said that I should be okay and he will test my levels when I see him in January. He said that the hysto just may make having a patch or gel an option instead of doing injections. I would switch to the patch, but I think I'm going to stick with injections since that seems to be working. I don't want to try to switch and have it not work and my hormones messed up for a while.
