Title: Acid peels.
Post by: AnnieE on August 07, 2007, 12:05:58 PM
Has anyone else tried them?

I had my first today(15% salcil. acid) and my face looks significantly better in terms of skin tone and acne.

Something about acid on my face just makes me nervous...

Do they hurt?

I've thought of doing something, since my face has lots of old scars and pock marks from when I was younger and had bad acne. (I later found that the acne meds were making it worse, and dairy products make me flair up... some kind of reaction or something. Once I got non-acne soap that was gentle for sensitive skin and cut out dairy, my face cleared.)

But, anyway, the peel thing sounds interesting and so does the dermabraision thing.

They burn for about two minutes but 5-10 minutes later my face felt extremely refreshed.

QuoteIMO it is a great to way to have instantaneous results, but I think anyone can accomplish the same results with regular exfoliation and good skin care products.
I do use 2% salcil. acid everyday along with other things but this is a world of difference just after the first peel. Maximum results take 4-6 weeks which is 4-6 peels. I will be looking foward to having picture perfect skin(well almost).

You did a home treatment? What product did you use?

I have been neglecting my face as of late, (though I had a facial in Thailand) you motivated me into putting on a mudpack...

Glycolic Acid is widely used and has good benefits for the skin, a chemical exfoliant providing it is not used at too high a %. I would personally recommend a less exfoliative method such as a microdermabrasion cream or glycolic pads, wipes or even a cleanser with circa 10% glycolic acid and have this as part of a daily skin care regime. Continuous non excessive exfoliation will help remove dead skin cells, increase cellular turnover and will reduce the appearance of scarring, although this will take some time 6 months plus. This would be better than a quick, invasive fix that could leave the skin red and dry for a period of time. Microdermabrasion treatments are good and do deliver results but again you would need a course of between 10 - 20 and also should continue with them as part of a good regime to keep skin is its optimum condition.

If you have a though skin that's still malish even if you've got smaller pores from HRT, I wouldn't do microdermarbrasion, its not agressive enough unless you go for the more expensive medical grade treatments (My epiderm is very thick).

I've used retin-a (tretinoin) which is partly a exfolliator (but it does much much more). It also unblocks pores, lightens the skin, thightens the dermis, it can undo 10+ years of sun damage of all kind in one year of daily application. My skin looks like someone in my early 20's

I would have thought microdermarbrasion was enough for me but I do think the facial aspect is the most important part of a transition. It's the first thing people see and the most obvious gender indicator.

I'll also tryretin-a (tretinoin)...

Just a 15% salcil. acid peel I bought from platinum skin care. Very nice results and very simple too.
