I've seen in my area most don't, I don't because I can't seem to keep from getting runs when putting them on and that gets expensive.
I wear them a bit. I actually like them, but I do go through them quickly. Destroyed a pair on Wednesday after just one wearing. It helps to keep my fingernails filed and to unroll them slowly, but I've just resigned myself to their fragility and get used to replacing them after a handful of wearings.
I do, but I have the same problem with getting runs when putting them on. I'm trying to be extra careful now to avoid ruining them so fast.
I see a lot of girls here wearing nice stockings and pantyhose.
I wear them all the time! :)

they are really comfy and cold repellent though.
I almost always wear them with my pale pasty legs. After living just across the river from NYC most of my life and a recent sprint in rural WV there are regional as well as generational factors. And when you think about it, what percentage of women do you see in skirts? Over 30 y/o?
You do have to be careful with runs on sheer stockings. Support followed by textured stockings are far more resilient.
I love wearing pantyhose.. It was the first piece of female clothing I ever wore.. So it has some sentimental meaning to me. I actually still have that pair.. Don't fit as a was 14 when I wore them.. And they got a nice run in them.
In the winter months I wear them almost every day.. Because my work uniform is above knee skirt.. So my legs are white in the winter.. Plus the thicker ones add warmth.
I prefer though highs, as I don't need to pull them off when I go to the ladies. But I do wear the full ones a lot. As with shorter skirts.. You don't want the elastic to show.. Getting runs in them is an issue.. But mine do last a while before breaking. I have learnt how to put them on with longer nails.. Very carefully.
anything other than black tights these days are big NO NO's
Ladders or laddering we call it, or runs, I wear them all the time, but can be expensive, I average about 5 wears, but not more than 10, ladder resistant tights still ladder or run, I resently distroyed an expensive pair getting out of a cab, after only 1 wear.

The highs or hold ups are the best, saves pulling them off going to the ladies, but prefer the full tights in winter, ladders or runs are a big issue, I am careful Noleen, but still get runs in expensive tights, annoying and can ruin a whole look, the fashion industry just wants women shopping and spending, if they ever do invent genuine ladder resistant nylons, sales will just go down.
I wear knee-highs all the time, full length pantyhose only occasionally. Considering that knee highs are like $0.33 and I wear longer skirts/dresses usually it doesn't make sense to wear panty hose as much. It is also much easier to prevent runs in knee highs.
What I have noticed is this, the younger someone is the less likely they are to wear them and also the hotter it is the less likely people are to wear them.
I wear knee high most days at work. I do wear a to the knees skirt sometimes and then I do wear hose. I like what they do for my legs but so many runs.

Nope. Not unless it is a really special occasion and more formal than informal. Other than that, it is the bare legs. With a garter belt, maybe some fishnets or the type of hosiery that has the seem running up the back of the legs but that is an estremely different "special occasion" though. :embarrassed:
I do for cosplay. Other than that, just when it's cold and I'm wearing a skirt.
Black nylons in winter, you betcha! They look great and keep my legs warm.
Summertime though I don't. This coming summer in Sydney I'm hoping to actually get a bit of colour in my legs!
I like thick 100 dernier or so black tights, you can even use them as leggings with a longish top!
I'll wear knee highs all the time instead of socks and thigh highs when its a bit nippy out. As for full out pantyhose, I have started wearing them less and less in favor of stockings
Winter.
The ones from Victorias Secret really hold up. I've gone through whole winters with four or so pair and I wear a lotta skirts so they are employed often.
good to know
Wow. I must be the only less than reputable girl here since I like the fishnets or the seem in the back with a garter belt, thong and... well I just ain't gonna' say anything else. :-\

As long as I ain't the only one. Thank you, now I don't feel so bad. And I mean really bad. But the guys always like a bad girl, trans or not. I have friends that guys are actually scared of or at least intimidated by and they are ciswomen. When we do go out together, the guys seem to think I am the least intimidating. And then when I tell them I'm trans then it's about 60 my way and 40 my girlfriends' way. I don't know whether to be offended or not. ??? Of course there isn't anything normal about us or where we go when we all go out so...

Yep. I would. Show off what the good lord or hormones gave you. I do when I can. Don't be shy though, you may have to go to a "less than reputable store". Of course I ain't shy though. Mostly anyway.
I think I need to hit up one of those stores, too! :P
That being said.... I love wearing tights. I don't wear pantyhose much, because I like to wear the colors (under pants for work normally) I've only been out in a skirt once, and it was bare-legged. Unfortunately, it is a little warm to wear them most of the time where I am (S. Florida).

Oh yeah, dressed normally bare legged is the only way to go. The only thing hosiery does is mess up their interest especially if you have good legs.
But those stores? I ain't too proud to shop in them. There is one in Amarillo TX and I have got some really "good" outfits in there. No complaints yet. Go into a shop like that dressed and in full femme mode, well let's just say... Nah, I ain't gonna' say. But I will say anyone remotely female walks into one of those shops and freakin' jaws drop to the floor. I swear I could her them hit the floor. Many times. It or it did have truck parking, if it is till even there, and a lot of drivers and I went to the either the Flying Jackass of the TA after they hit on me in that shop. I let them know up front and about 3 out of 10 lost interest beforehand.
I remember one time there was a Christian group taking trucking company names down in the parking lot and threatening to call the company on the drivers. I asked them if they wanted me to pick them up any XXX magazines or movies while I was in there. Gawd, 10 people, 7 of them women and calling me a slut and whore gave me the biggest boost of confidence I think I have ever had in my life. Of course I gave them the number of my dispatcher and never heard anything about it. Too bad 'cause my dispatcher was cute and bi and I asked him personally if he heard anything from anybody in Amarillo TX and he said no. :( But I did spend a couple of nights at his place when I came to town. ;)
Never be intimidated or shamed by anyone. Try to shame them and if not, something good may come of it. It did with me even temporarily.
BTW I wasn't wearing nylons when I encountered this group. I was bare legged and in a miniskirt and wedges with my pretty pink toes peaking through and pink nails with a spaghetti strap tank. And I'm kind of ashamed to say, big hair ( Texas in the mid to late 90s ) and made up like.... Well, I ain't gonna' say but it was pretty heavy. So what they were calling me, I wasn't denying. :embarrassed:
Since I wear a dress every day, I wear either pantyhose, stockings or tights every single day. I love 'em. I have pretty nice legs and it's nice to hear compliments about them or what I'm wearing, but I have a S.O. I really love, so I try not to listen too much.

Well, I have an SO too. But he don't really dictate what I wear. I always ask if my but looks too big in this or that and he lies and says no. I ask if I look fat in this or that and he lies and says no. I ask him, "What do you think about this?" and he still lies and say it looks good. Either my boyfriend is blind, truly likes he way I look or one helluva liar. I'm thinking either blind or lying just to get something that he wants. ???
Not nylons, no. Tights, yes. Spanx tight end tights are sheer enough to pass for nylons at times but sturdy as hell for most daily type wear. They come in at the medium price range but they're the best pair I've ever had and they come in a bunch of fun but suitably understated colors (as compared to American Apparel or HUE) I think in this fashion landscape you can still rock a colored tight and look chic if you're clever and confident.

A pair of silk gloves is a must dear!
I got a pair at Nordstrom (Tyson Corner) at the lingerie department made by Givenchy specially for handling fine hosiery.
You can also find them on line at http://www.stockingirl.com/department/accessories.html
I must say that I wear stockings with garters out of the convenience they provided when you go to the bathroom... hassle free
but also they make me feel like... a femme fatal >:-)

Used to like it and wear it regularly but grew to hate it. Runs and bathroom issues plus I like my legs now.

I am thinking a quick trip up the beltway might be in order! I didn't even know these things existed.
During winter yes, summer no. 45C and panti-hose is a no no.
For an elegant and sexy feel and fun end to the evening :embarrassed: garter belt and stay up stockings. The stockings don't sag and the garter belt doesn't get pulled down and of course he hasn't a clue, just goes nuts >:-) as nature intends  >:-)
When I first started transition in the 60s it was the only way!
They are quite sexy but as noted above can be chilly in the winter.
I think men like them more than women as they don't have to wear them. The suspenders ping occasionally and it is so easy to ladder or make holes in expensive stockings doing up the suspenders.

Nylons, stockings, tights, I think they are all great :icon_chick: They tie an outfit together nicely and I love the nice added feeling of femininity I feel when wearing them
Just about go nutters when they get a run or a snag in them though
Ithink this is an old wives tale, doesn't seem to work for me.
But if you dab some nail varnish on a run it stops it. I have done this in emergency situations, didn't seem to work but maybe the run was too large.
Any thoughts on stopping the dreaded run at work?
Nail Polish can work on small runs. Big runs means they are lost. Keep a spare pair in your desk.

During cold weather they feel great so yes. Not a big fan but sometimes they look & feel nice.
i love all nylons especially simple 20 denier sandalfoot hose and thigh-highs and wear them all the time in the cooler months. funny how everyone likes to think they're old fashioned. and so what if they are? plus i am not sure it is even true as i pay very close attention to feminine street wear and it seems i see more and more hosiery of late.
for me the feeling is overwhelmingly sensual and sexy. nothing beats hosiery on smooth skin.
as far as runs go, and being an outlier again, they do not bother me that much. simply means time to buy another pair! GGs don't realize what a treat it is to wear hose...

No. Just some of us, er, them could not admit it! ;)
Rarely. I have a whole drawer full of tights (I call them all tights; nylons, pantyhose or whatever is all tights to me) but only wear them when I wear my long skirts and I barely ever wear those either. I also wear them for formal events or professional conventions, conferences, etc thus, being realistic, maybe at most 15+ times a year. Most of my professional clothes are slacks (not skirts) so I don't see much reason to wear tights. I don't wear heels with them either, I wear flats or low heel pumps (less than an inch heel on them). Sort of like these ones: http://www.toryburch.com/regina-pump/22148307.html?start=28&cgid=shoes-heels&dwvar_22148307_color=001 (http://www.toryburch.com/regina-pump/22148307.html?start=28&cgid=shoes-heels&dwvar_22148307_color=001)
For causal life the answer is a big no...
I love my nylons and my tights. I keep black, purple, and white tights around but don't get as many chances to wear those effectively. I wear sheer nylons frequently. No, they do not last very long. So far I've been willing to accept that cost. :)

clear nail varnish does work.. but i notice mostly young woman use this method
It's finally cold weather where I live so it's time for several new pairs of pantyhose & to wash my tights/leggings. I love to wear skirts or casual dresses so a girl has to keep her legs warm. Just be careful & you should not get runs, make sure your nails are smooth & do not wear any sharp objects such as rings when you are putting them on & you should be OK. Yes just clear poilsh will stop a run if a small one. Do not try to wear too small a size hose, stretching them quite a bit causes runs.
I wear nylons a couple times a week. I work in an office environment, so when I wear dresses or skirts it is kind of required. In the office setting having bare legs is considered to be a no no. It makes you appear less put together. I will normally wear nylons (sheer nude and sheer black) during the summer. They are much more light and airy. In the winter I wear all sorts of colored opaque tights. It depends on what outfit I am wearing. Some people will claim they they are for old people or out of style but that is completely false, or it depends on which circle they run in. I will say, if you do wear the wrong color of tights or nylons it will make you look worse and not better... Choose wisely!!

you need to seal the edges so the run can't continue from any point along the torn edge.

The are run free nylons available. If something happens just the hole stays like it is without running. In Germany brands like Kunert and C&A sell them.
As a president/general manager I have to wear them all day im the office and I like them.

When I transitioned the first time, I lived and worked as a woman for a little over 2 years and part of that was for a UK Bank. At that time they had a dress code for women which was only a skirt or dress, with pants disapproved of, and the skirt or dress was expected to be no more than 2" above the knee or below it and wearing stockings or tights was mandatory, nude, tan or black was acceptable. We were also expected to wear low heels, with a maximum of 2.5". Flats were also disapproved of. I am sure looking back it was to ensure the women conformed to what the men in the Head Office expected. Soft colour blouses were encouraged and we were expected to wear a jacket unless in summer if wearing a skirt and blouse. With dresses, bare shoulders was frowned upon , but sleeveless was acceptable, but woe betide any women that hadn't shaved or had her armpits waxed. I loved it as I was able to express my femineity, but a few of the women I worked with used to complain it was all for the men in the office benefits!
Oh, yea, stockings are still around. They wouldn't be in the stores if someone wasn't buying them. Younger women have largely abandoned them, but for those of us past a certain age they are still a thing to do. I keep up with the celeb fashions and the over 40 celebs like Claudia Schiffer and Sandra Bullock wear them. The ones that don't should. You don't see the nude color as much as black or colored shades. Opaque tights are fairly popular even with the younger crowd, though. Everybody's got to cove their legs in cool weather.
I think I want to try a pair of psychedelic leggins

That's very true, mostly in summer months I wear nylon stockings, Iv totally given up on garter belts and suspenders since I discovered holdups with elastic band at the top, much more comfortable when sitting, men like suspenders but don't have to wear them, I never wear them now, the holdups are getting more stylish and pretty with a lace band, I love them, I'II wear stylish tights on a night or when the cold weather arrives, but the holdups are my favourite and more practical going to the ladies not having to pull them down, more wear and tear.
It's wintertime soon so I will be wearing my thick cotton tights under my pants for about 5 months.
