I'm torn between two: the first name I picked for myself when I was 14 and identifying as pangender (Dylan), and the name(s) my parents would have chose for me had I been born with a penis (Carlos Francisco) or something similarly Hispanic (I like Alejandro especially). The problem is mostly that although I do honestly really like the idea of a Hispanic first/middle name since my last name is Hispanic and a white boy first name kinda interrupts the flow, I am biracial and quite white-looking. I mean - dark features, rather hairy, and I look a lot like my Mexican dad and very pale Mexican aunt, but most people don't realize I'm Mexican, so I worry giving myself a Hispanic name will be out of place. Thoughts? I realize I can do whatever I want in the end, I just want people's opinions.
While I'm biased towards the name Dylan since I really like it, I don't think there would be a problem with having a Hispanic name if that is what you would prefer. One can't always tell with people anyway. One of my friends is Hispanic and looks whiter than my boyfriend who's white, but keeps getting mistaken for Mexican. Alejandro is also a nice name.
I guess it would depend if you were wanting to transition full time and live with that name. Dylan is a good name but it seems to be given to both boys and girls - if you do want an andro name then that would be the way to go. I like Alejandro too.
I also come from a Hispanic family and when picking my name, I was trying to find something that fit with my last name but nothing I liked clicked do I'm resorting to changing my entire name. I like Alejandro but don't hesitate to change your last name since it's a name you have to stick with for the rest of your life.
I think it's cool to have a name that your parents would have named you, but this is your life and I think Alejandro and Dylan are both cool names. I'd go with the one your parents had in mind for a boy but that's just me. :)
I think choosing a name is not an easy thing to do. I really like Alejandro and as mentioned previously Dylan is both male and female, so if Andro is what your after then that would work well. But I think it's really nice picking a name your parents would have given you. But I think as it will be with you for possibly ever, you need to be comfortable with it. And yes, if it's going to appear on your drivers license then i would take some time with the decision. But I like how your thinking of and including your family in your decision, it's really sweet
It's really about what makes you comfortable. Mine was easy as it is the direct male counterpart to my birth name. For me that worked. I will be making my middle name my dads first name since that is the tradition in the family
