I feel like I've been listening to the same bands for too long, don't get me wrong I love them but it's time for something new.
What are GREAT metal bands in your opinion, or simply ones you can't get enough of. Maybe an album that all round kicks ass, or even just a song that's come from out of nowhere.
I love rock / hard rock through to death metal. I got a couple songs that are a lil bit less well known in my experience (with other lovers of le greatest music genre),I hope you like 'em :) if you've got any bands / albums / songs please share!! Never know, might find a new favourite thing! ;D
Zebrahead - Falling Apart (I love this song!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I57wsDc200U
Avalanche - Plaster Saint (Not a fan of the band, but this is a great video and a good song IMO)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-75Jk82IDA
Seether - Truth (Well known song and band, but we all need to appreciate how great the video is ;) )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBXkWVZD4qE
Will keep y'all posted if I find anything else, please share if you've got anything awesome ;D :D

I'm not a big big big fan of heavy metal or metal or stuff, it can be kind of macho for me.
But I really like Blood Stain Child.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2VLLpYuT9U
They have a female vocalist, and I believe that one of their guitarists is a crossdresser.
I think they identify as male, at least.
Um.. I think he goes by G.S.R. He's so adorable!
Eh, I've been listening to the same stuff forever. lol I never find new music, especially in metal since I don't listen to it like I did when I was younger.
However, I will share a couple of lists. This first one I would say are absolute "Must Listen" heavy metal albums:
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath
Death - Symbolic
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
WASP - WASP
Mastodon - Leviathan
Judas Priest - British Steel
Anthrax - Spreading the Disease
Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Some people would probably throw in some Slayer, Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, and Sepultura. For me, however, I never found an album that I personally loved from those 5, so I can't personally recommend them myself.
Some personal stuff I enjoy that is probably more dependent on personal taste:
Baroness - Yellow and Green
Sigh - Hail Horror Hail
Gwar - Lust in Space
The Crown - Hell is Here
Anata - Under a Stone With No Inscription
Kyelsa - Static Tensions
Burnt By the Sun - The Perfect is the Enemy of the Good
Enslaved - Below the Lights
Impaled - Mondo Medicale
In Flames - Colony
Cradle of Filth - Midian
Macabre - Dahmer
The Berzerker - Dissimulate
I've been in a few metal bands over the years. I like music in most genres, but when I'm in a metal mood, look out!
I like a lot of classic metal, especially NWOBHM and thrash. I'm also really into people who can really shred on guitar or bass.
I have found some newer bands that I like, such as:
Huntress
Blood Ceremony
Diablo Swing Orchestra
Starkill
Hung
Alestorm
Kvelertak
\m/ (-|-) \m/
Texas Hippie Coalition
Halestorm
In this Moment
Nashville Pussy
Just do a youtube search and there is no telling what you may find. A lot of good bands that aren't really that famous but are really good.
Korpiklaani
Turmion Kätilöt
Arkona
Sirenia
Diablo Swing Orchestra
Herr Mannelig
In Extremo
Tanzwut
Rammstein
Lordi
Judas Priest
Blue Oyster Cult
Sabaton
Alestorm
The Dread Crew of Oddwood

Damn, I love all these songs! Thanks for sharing and please carry on, 'tis great ;D
I discovered and even rediscovered some old and new favorites, loving them.
Texas Hippie Coalition - P*ssed off and mad about it (new favourite)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQa6Z1xFq4E
Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide (old favourite, don't like the band much, but this was a great theme from Smackdown VS Raw)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsV500W4BHU
Cradle of Filth - Her ghost in the fog (old favourite, great song and great band \m/ )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49ZJqqrr6jk
Rammstein - Sonne (new favourite, knew the band but didn't listen much. Love 'em!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIBeYoP9Wi0
I will just list some bands and records.
Exit 13 "Ethos Musick"
Autopsy "Macabre Eternal"
My Dying Bride "The Light At The End Of The World"
Gorefest "False"
Texas Hippie Coalition is good stuff, I had to stop listening to them in the car, they tend to give me a bad case of lead foot >:-)
continuing with my personal love of European metal bands
Eluveitie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msRy4vcSX4k
Crimfall ...though the lead singer left a while back so I stopped following them since I mostly liked them because I have a crush on her XD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXeK3M7O8_0
Motus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUhntr1RbIs
Katra (I have no shame in admitting that I'm a sucker for metal bands w/ female vocalists :) :) )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4mKWjrulc8
So people other than myself like Texas Hippie Coalition? Turn it up is another good one. Little Nikki from Detroit is my freakin' heroin. Everyone does know they are from Texas, right? And ya'll thought all we knew here in the south was freakin' country music. ::) Everyone does know that the initials for Texas Hippie Coalition is THC, right? I hope that doesn't break any TOS rules but even they say it. 8)

Being trans is so brutally metal!!! Hey, I already came with long hair and pierced ears.
Love Metalocalypse BTW- best cartoon EVER. I've seen Dethklok a few times, and even went as guests of Mike Keneally once.
I checked out Metalocalypse a long time ago. While it had some amusing bits here and there, I got bored with it very quickly.

Heh, me too! I actually got into Crimfall (I normally tend to dislike that kind of folk metal) because I liked the band she was in prior to that...
Tacere - Deep Tears of Tragedyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPSNXdHEYKI
Just gonna throw in a few songs by artists who haven't been mentioned yet....
Aeternus - There's No Wine Like the Blood's Crimsonhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HpdcTK_1wk
Ulver - I Troldskog Faren Vildhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3Ubctz2ywA

The Dread Crew of Oddwood. .....this is assuming you're not already a fan, since you exhibit similar tastes as mine.

Anyone here like Blood Ceremony? Not pirate metal, but folk/pagan metal from Canada. Kinda like Jethro Tull meets Black Sabbath.
There's a folk/pagan metal band from my country? Checking it out now! (After The Dread Crew of Oddwood. I like the name.)
Omg. They're killing muppets. The melody reminds me of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

You're the first to tell me about them, and after listening for the 30min+ of their material, I do indeed like 'em. I definitely see the BS + JT analogy being very applicable.
You might like Black Mountain, more on the rock end but still a strong old school 60's 70's rock & metal vibe

Thought I recognised the name, so looked it up. Pretty sure I have heard them, but I think I was pretty intoxicated when my friend showed me so I don't remember what they sounded like or if I even liked them.... Thanks for reminding me of them. lol
I mainly listen to the classics. Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Dio, Judas Priest, Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Blind Guardian, Danzig.

A half decent article in Terrorizer! I though those days had long passed! lol
Yeah, there's some pretty gross attitudes floating around the metal scene. Kinda made me feel that I had to remain closeted in every manner.... Funny thing is that it seemed to come more from the audience, more than the other bands, well, except for an exceedingly meatheaded minority.... I got called some pretty choice names thanks to my manner + dress sense. lol
Heres some of the metal I listen to regularly:
Intervals
ForTiori
In Flames (older in flames)
Black Dahlia Murder
Between the Buried and Me
I wrestled a bear once
Necrophagist
Rings of saturn
If you like any of those let me know. I listen to mostly harder stuff. I got hundreds of suggestions for all types of music.
What would we do without music?
Since we have some My Dying Bride fans here:

Wynternight I really liked that Vampire song. I love 80s thrash like Slayer and Sodom and it reminds me of that stuff. I've always loved a lot of the nwobhm bands like Motorhead, Holocaust, Grim Reaper and Satan as well.
I grew up in Minneapolis in the 90s, which was the peak of Profane Existence so my outlook on life was heavily influenced by a lot of those bands (read bleak). Amebix was a big one for me (they were older of course) along with MPLS bands Destroy/Code 13 and State of Fear. Detestation was a fav as well. I just thought their singer, Saira, was the coolest. The soud quality is terrible here but it gives you an idea of what their shows were like!

Indeed it is. I remember when "Unrest" and "The Rest" were being released in their remastered form, some of the people commenting on this one article (don't remember what site it was) were like: "Who the hell is that? The word 'classic' gets thrown around too much these days". It was pathetic. Even though I had an old mix tape of all of the 7"'s and I had "Unrest" on cassette. I bought them anyway. They blew away the sound quality on the tapes by an easy mile. One thing that was weird, though, was that the live "Smash Divisions" 7" isn't on there. And BOOOOO to Relapse for only pressing 500 copies of the DVD with all of those killer live shows.

It's the rawness and lack of production that gives them the edge they had. Over produced crap lacks the visceral impact of something that sounds like it was recorded live in a garage.
Saw Slipknot in Manchester on Tuesday with Korn sorta sub-headlining and King 810 opening.

I was really into metal once upon a time. I've expanded my tastes since then, but at one time I was deeply into the scene as it was. Was even the front person of a band with a following (We were called Ravager)
I've always been into the old school quite a bit more then newer styles (Maiden, Sabbath etc) and into the more underground sub genres (doom, thrash, early 90s death scene, black, power)
The newer metal bands that I like are on the more progressive side of things, and are almost jazz/jam metal at times. Do yourself a favor and look up Hypnos 69 Legacy full album on youtube

Good stuff here. Nevermore needs to get back together again and Loomis needs to be back in the band!!
They really are a amazing group and hopefully the "possible" return they've talked about will happen. As for Jeff, what is it with everyone going to Arch Enemy? I mean I do like them (Arch Enemy) but it kind of annoyed me when Alissa replaced Angela! I liked her in The Agonist and Angela had been the voice of Arch Enemy for as long as I had known about the group. :\
Here are a couple more bands that I like. Type O Negative was great, it's a shame Peter Steele passed away. Deadlock however is still going strong!

Utter ->-bleeped-<-e. I've always hated the death bands that write lyrics by opening a medical textbook, vomiting on the pages randomly, and string together the results. This isn't any better.
I agree the lyrics are not that great and death bands can be somewhat poor with their lyrics. I was surprised to see this song after I bought the cd. I was looking for thoughts concerning the lyrics. It appears to me that this band is against conversion therapy by the means of christian brain washing but I'm not sure.

They're a pretty liberal band by death metal standards, being founded on vegan principles by four vegans. They had, at one time, much more of a crust attitude and sound. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were opposed to conversation therapy but I'd prefer another method of expression vs. this song.

Anyone else heard Lamb of God's newly released stuff?!?!?
I can't wait for the new album, one of my favourite bands!!!

Oh my god!! I'm sorry I bumped an older topic, but I love metal. I'm a total metal / alternative girl. XD
I play in two metal bands! One of them is a post-metal kind of band, and the other is an industrial / (black) metal band.
Most people I talk to think I'm so weird for listening to some of the obscure bands I listen to. Let me list a few of my favorite songs here.
Trollheim's Grott - Little Shop of Scalpels

Opeth - The Lotus Eater

Chthonic - Takao

Rotting Christ - In Yumen / Xibalba

I need me some metal right about now. My day sucked hard.
I used to not like it but for some reason I started loving it this year. I especially like symphonic metal with my favorite being Nightwish right now. I use my music subscription to listen to a wide variety of other metal too. I have a lot to catch up on.

Devildriver is my favorite. I can't get enough of them. Also Lamb of God.
Deborah,
It's funny that you mention Nightwish. I have Google Play, and during one of my driving sessions listening to Devildriver, they showed up on my suggestion list. I gave them a play, and ended up adding them to my library. They remind me somewhat of a Symphonic Disney Metal band, lol. But in a good way!
I know Killing Joke isn't really considered metal, but they do have some significant metal influences:

I personally love their music! :D Anybody else?
Absolutely. A lot of metal bands cite them as an influence.

Everyone get your old Motorhead records out!

Whoo!! :D Which albums / songs are your favorite? I used to listen to Absolute Decent almost daily. There just such a powerful dark and apocalyptic feeling to their music. It's great when you're on public transport, headphones on and take in the atmosphere.
I also really liked their modern self-titled album, and I thought Pandemonium was a great industrial rock / metal record (although I didn't grow up with that album).
I found a nice pagan/folk metal band called Ulvesang. Very relaxing.

My boyfriend loves Nightwish too. I enjoy it as well. :3
A good one from King 810's recent mix tape - a mixture of groove metal and hip hop, I love it but not everyone's cup of tea

Gunn writes great lyrics, example from this song being:
'I'm in the mirror trying to find my father in my face
So I can shoot myself right in that very place'
Rocking an S.O.B. show from Belgium, 1989 at the moment.
CLASSIC Grind!!
Just wondering if there are any other metalheads around here from the GTA or Ontario, Canada in general? Find since coming out as trans I involuntarily distanced myself from the metal community. I still go to shows but miss having folks to talk metal with on a regular basis in real life. Would be cool if there are other trans metalheads in the area or in the province >:-)
I've been really into this song lately

Not sure on that one, but UK here!
I just found out that Adam "Blackula" Young committed suicide on the 10th of June.
Some of you may remember him from his death metal / grindcore project called Sockweb, which features his nine year old daughter Joanie on vocals (and she also wrote all the lyrics). The music videos were pretty popular and I remember how the videos made me smile and wonder how much fun it must be to have such a good relationship with your father to be able to make music together like this. What a terrible way to end such a positive thing.
Rest in peace Adam. I hope Joanie is coping well.
I used to listen to lots of metal near the end of high school. I've been getting back into it recently. Back then I was really into Dethklok and Cannibal Corpse. Still think those bands are great, but now I'm really liking Testament's sound.

This is probably one of my favorite metal songs. That bass line is so sick... I miss my bass guitar now....
One of my favorite bands is Scar Symmetry. Their subject matter is pretty sci-fi and New Age.

I'll have to give them a listen. I've been on my usual blackened thrash, D-beat kick but also listening to a lot of Riverside and the singer's side project, Lunatic Soul.
Nice! I've seen Riverside live about a year or two ago, near my hometown. I'm glad I went to see them, because they're definitely talented musicians and the show didn't disappoint.
I'm currently listening to Lucifugum.

It's funny to me how this band is actually a husband and wife duo.
I know some people used to consider them a national socialist band, but I'm not seeing a lot of evidence for that myself. If they have been, I think there's a good possibility that they dumped that ridiculous ideology, just like fellow Slavic black metal band Nokturnal Mortum did a few years ago.
Iron Maiden new album " book of souls"
Check out the official video for speed of light then look at the live version
Not many bands sound as good on stage as their recordings and death or glory is good
Umm the rollins band " lier"

Why not? o_O Sounds like heavy metal to me!
I'm currently in a Nine Inch Nails mood myself, so I've been listening to The Downward Spiral:

I know this is probably stretching the definition of metal, but I've seen people label it as industrial metal so I'm sticking with that. :P
Doom so doomy that you're doomed just listening to it. A band so heavy they generate a singularity wherever they play.

Gotta love GWAR...
That was pretty sweet! I haven't seen or heard GWAR in ages. I'm glad to see them still going strong after Dave Brockie passed away.
My roller derby team has been going to see them every year for the last several trips they have come to Seattle. My 4 GWAR hoodies are a testament to my fandom :)
I miss having Oderous out there, but when a scumdog gets recalled to the great galactic void, you gotta go. But you will be missed

What, looks Like Y,
If letters are fractals, do vowels count more or less?
Metal for me is mostly underground. Bands that you won't see on MTV or hear on the radio. Stuff like 6 feet under, Arch Enemy, Marduk, a bit of Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse (Chris Barnes years), Devil Driver, and Hatebreed just to name a few.
The more mainstream stuff for me would be, above all else Disturbed. Then Linkin Park, Static-X, Breaking Benjamin, and a hell of a lot of 80's rock. It's what I grew up on and I still love it. I mean who from that area doesn't remember Cherry Pie? Warrant was awesome, especially some of their ballads. I'm a sucker for slow songs.

Man... Black And White used to be a permanent part of my MP3 player back in the early 2000s. It's a sad thought that the guy isn't around anymore. :(
Yes true such a waste.. 😢

Honestly, I'm a sucker for Eurometal.
Right now I'm into Heidevolk, Metsatoll, Tyr, Fejd, etc. I also love Blind Guardian and Elvenking.
On a side note, I love Wardruna, Heilung and Eivor (especially Trollabunden). I have unusual tastes.

Heidevolk, nice! :D Just a few months ago I bought a piece of guitar-gear from the guitarist of Heidevolk. He lives in my hometown. Nice guys.
