Title: Height
Post by: Ashey on October 01, 2014, 11:25:00 AM
I'm a bit concerned (and elated). I felt particularly short the other day so I decided to measure myself. At most I'm only 5' 7"! However, just a decade ago I was 5' 11"... And a year ago I was probably 5' 10" or so. Anyone experience that much height decrease? It's great, but I'm hoping it levels off now. I'll be very concerned if I get any shorter... :/

I've never heard of height loss so large. I don't know what to tell you at all. I lost about half an inch over the last two years as HRT changed muscle structure in the shoulders, back, and chest. I suspect it's not done yet but I don't expect to lose a lot more height either.

But 4 inches? That's amazing and I've never heard of anything like that before. Have you discussed this with a doctor?

Wow that's the first time I've heard of such a thing. You certainly were blessed and I hope it doesn't get any lower.

Well I'm exactly the same height as when I started, though I've suspected for a while that my body was already mildly feminized in structure naturally so it wouldn't surprise me if there was no change.  If anything, since shedding depression my posture has improved a bit so I'm probably standing taller these days.

I should say I don't mind being 6'1" given how f'ing crowded the Toronto Subway is these days!  Also wouldn't want to be without it at concerts.

Wow, I've only came across this umm maybe 2 or 3 times over all these years, but I went from 6' 0 down to what I am now 5' 8 1/2". This is over quite of few years though, and I always thought it was from starting meth from such a young age, bout 1964 and malnutrition.  So there's one more of us here.   ;D

Yeah I am probably the short one behind you at that concert.

Not yet. I go see him Monday.

Being shorter is weird... kinda nice, but weird. And it comes with some problems. For one, I can only wear petite size pants since I apparently lost most of my height off my legs somehow. Went from a 29-30 inseam to 27ish I think, and my old jeans went up just under my boobs when I held them against me a few months ago. >_> And the other issue is that I don't think I have the body type to be short. :/ I'm half-Cuban so I'm naturally a bit thick in places... I'm also carrying more weight than I'd like right now. So I feel like my body is super awkward. But I guess I somehow pull it off? But if I get any shorter, I think I'll be screwed. >_<

Hmm, I thought this would be a bit more common than it seems to be. Which worries me a bit... Also worried because of the height coming off my legs. That's just kinda weird. I could understand if it was around the middle. Could be spinal, which would suck but it'd make sense. But my legs? I just don't even know...

it can happen sometimes. I think it has something to do with the potassium sparing that the spiro can do causing either an increased risk of osteoporosis or a "doubling back" of the bone structure to preserve itself or something like that... i used to be 5'4 when I started, now I'm only 5'2 and 6/10th"  ;)

I went from 6'2" to 6' but hadn't tied it to hormones.  I wouldn't be upset if I got down a few more inches.
Hope the doctor gives you a clean bill of health.

Age also impacts height. I think I peaked (pun intended :) ) at about 5'11" in my early 20s. But I was around 5' 10.5" by my early 30s and held there until two years ago when I began HRT. Over the next two years I lost what I thought was half an inch. But you know what? I've not measured myself since a couple months on HRT. So this morning I did exactly that. This morning I measured at five foot eight and a half inches in my bare feet.

I'm stunned. No wonder my height is becoming less and less of an issue! Ha!

Wow that's awesome! Now if only this would happen in the reverse for me, I would love to be 5'9. :D

Yeah, let your Dr. come to a conclusion.

As for me, starting HRT soon, I hope I don't shrink too much from 6' or my giant feet and hands will make me look like a hobbit.

I'd love to hear the secret to shrinking, lol.  I'm stuck being around 5"11 and it makes me feel like a giant which isn't a plus for me as a transwoman.

Thats good news so long as its not due to bad medical implications. I have never heard about lost of height to that extent and its not due to HRT, at that great difference. After 20 plus years old you stop growing and then you start shrinking but this is normally 1 to 3 inches. I was 5ft 71/2ins and I am now 5ft 7 ins. Alot has to do with being male wanting to look taller so me always use the upper limit. Then in transition most want to lose height and they take the low reading - this can account for 1 inch. Muscular lost will cause you to also lose some height but this is dramatic.
