Title: a little cofused can you be trans binary without GRS
Post by: stephaniec on October 03, 2014, 12:48:07 PM
Just curious if you can truly consider your self a binary transgender if you have no need for GRS , so you would be non binary because your different mentally than your physical state of being or are genital classification totally irrelevant  in how you exist in life. I see my self as a transgender primarily and a pre op bi- trans MTF secondarily with no clue as to where this is taking me. I just know that I've never mentally belonged in the male box except for this baggage in between my legs.(which I have attempted to the point of blood to rip off.) I admit to being very sad about the conflict going on between NB and B. I'm a extreme Jesus freak on top of being a transgender and I'm crying for a community being torn apart by misunderstanding. sorry for the rant.

I am sure there are many binary women and men out there that do not feel the need for srs. Some feel that the risk isn't worth it others feel that what is between their legs doesn't define who they are and don't feel the need for further surgery.

This is just my point of view and it is possible I could be wrong, but I think you can be binary transgender without necessarily transitioning all the way.  I thought being transgender was more about your own gender identity than the amount you have transitioned towards a goal.  Please forgive me if I am mistaken.  However, I do see your point of view.  It seems like you are thinking more or less about the lengths which one is willing to go in order to fully feel themselves.  It depends upon the semantics of the conversation, but assuming transgender is about identity, one may identify as binary but not wish to fully transition.  I think most binary female want SRS but live with what they have due to the difficulties in obtaining it.  Because it is difficult, at some point you have to accept and move on until a later opportunity arises.

I'd go along with this--especially since it pretty well matches my own circumstances.  I don't doubt my need to fully transition.  But whether circumstances will permit is another question entirely.

I don't see why not. I'm binary, but I had no trouble existing socially as a binary woman without GRS. I had it done for me personally, to increase my own comfort in my body; by the time it happened, only my very closest friends had any idea it hadn't already been taken care of. Besides, I think people are what they say they are; if someone's comfortable with her body and also says she's binary, I'll believe her. :)

Back in a much simpler age you'd just be called a non-op or pre-op TS. GRS isn't for everyone for all sorts of reasons. While in a perfect world I wouldn't have the dangly bits, GRS was never on my wish list. My dysphoria is not to the extent that I abhor what's down there. Hell, we've had some great times together in spite of my ambivalence about them.

I don't see why you need GRS to be binary, I think it is more of a statement of who you are inside and your identity.

I don't think whether or not a binary trans person has GRS is anyone's business other than their own, and perhaps their SO's.

Yes, your genital configuration does not define your gender identity... Unless of course you want it to.
