Title: Womb Transplants Are A Reality
Post by: Wynternight on October 04, 2014, 03:28:55 AM
Let's not get too excited. I doubt there would be enough donors to allow transwomen to have a transplant over natal women; but it's still pretty amazing.

Don't get to unexcited though, these trials just prove a functional womb can be transplanted, there's no reason one cannot be grown from stem cells ;)

It's more the ovary thing that's a problem for us bearing children

Wow thanks Wynternight. I agree, that is pretty amazing and just goes to show how far science has come.

I agree Jo, that would be very cool and I'm sure coming to a drug store near us  :)

Agreed. I was going to mention stem cells but it was late when I found the article and I wanted to go to bed.

If it could be done we could carry a child as a surrogate or, imagine this: someone banks sperm then has a donor egg and the whole kit and kaboodle is implanted into the stem-cell grown womb! The mind boggles!! You could truly be mother and father at the same time. We're getting into sci-fi territory here.  ;D

Where would you put it? A born male pelvis wouldn't accommodate it anyway, it's all a post-op MtF can do to get the large dilator in there to maintain a vagina.

I just heard this on the radio and came straight here to post about it, then I found this thread lmao! :D

I agree, this is really great news!  One step closer to fully functional female reproductive systems in trans* girls.  You have no idea how much I'd *love* to be pregnant! :D

Hmm, well male and female pelvises aren't *that* much different.  In terms of carrying a baby - from what I understand at least - all the articles I'm reading on this, the scientists are saying that principally men are physically capable of carrying a baby in their abdomen, so I don't think there's a problem there.  The only issue would be giving birth to the baby(s) at the end of gestation, but even then there's always cesarian sections :)  Plus, some of us are blessed with female-grade hips anyway :D <3

Even if this were a standard type of procedure, I would run away screaming from it.

No way in hell do I want any children.

Yeah kids and porcupines don't make good bedfellows anyway.

No, I don't deal with most kids well. Sure, I can deal with my nieces and nephews. But that's only because I know I can go home later and not have to be around them 24/7. I vowed from the time that I was 11 that I would NEVER have children. The same thing would have applied had I been a genetic female.

I have several nieces and nephews that are infants. (Only one is of school age) I've had my fill of infants, thanks.

I had a love/hate relationship with my own kids, grandkids are OK because when they ->-bleeped-<- their pants I can always give them back to their parents. No more kids here either, I want a life thank you!

And could you imagine trying to give birth to a porcupine?!? :o

:D :D

Indeed.

Plus, I've already been asked to babysit a few times. I've shot them down with a resounding 'hell no!'.  :D

Well I think kids are wonderfull and love mine to bits. But I know it's not for everyone. My brother for example, gay male who never wants to have his own children, but always wants to 'borrow' my kids for fun outings.

But giving birth I don't think I'd want to do, I mean there's stretch marks, 9months of cramps, swollen ankles and raging hormones.

Hang on, probably a walk in the park compared to transition

I am not at all surprised. The whole reproductive cycle is slowly but surely able to be manipulated by modern medicine. Having gone through several cycles of IVF with my current wife I know the process intimately including administering hormones. The most important part we know about, and that is the hormones.

As for birthing them, that's what c-sections are for. We have triplets and there was no way they were going to be born vaginally. In fact they would pretty much not survive if not for a c-section. Umbilical cord would get wrapped or some other bad thing would happen. Or the mother would die because they couldn't be carried to term (in most cases, multiples of higher orders than twins are preemies, something like 90%, 60% of twins are preemies too)

I have kids now thankfully but I've always dreamed of carrying one. Not going to happen though. I'll be too old by the time that is possible.

The biggest benefit of this I can see right now is that it gives hope for MtFs that one day we too can do everything that cis women can do.

I've always dreamed of being pregnant, having a baby shower etc. Le sigh

Well, they have 15 years to get this right before I basically have to give up hope on that being a reality.

Oi Vey... this really spins me around... I'm philosophically against having kids, yet this news makes me pause and go 'well maybe one if it were possible...' XD

Don't get excited everyone. There are still serious issue's to over come. First these are transplants between cis females and that is a huge difference. MtF also do not have the correct nerve pathways and they can't just be attached if they did. Scar tissue formation means it would have no sensation. They there is compatibility much like organ donation. You could be on a waiting list for years and if (IF) you had a donor the chances of a match are very low. As someone earlier indicated the anatomy is not there for MtFs to receive one any way. Yes, I am a medical professional. Science is just not there yet.  :(

Thank you for pointing this out.. As great as the news is, it's unlikely to ever be of benefit to trans women.. And even if it was, we would be the absolute last people on the planet to benefit.

Not yet. Maybe not in our lifetime, but it will happen. Hope for those that come after us.

The idea of science figuring out a way to provide transwomen with fully functioning reprodcutive system would be a dream come true for me.  Too bad it probably won't happen in my lifetime but a girl can dream right :P

I sure hope I can get a fully functioning female reproduction system someday. I would actually love to be pregnant, even with all the crap that goes with it.   :-*

As a medic I can tell you not to hold your breathe. Science is still 30 years at the minimum from doing this. Transplants to cis females IS possible. Transplants to Transgirls is not. Sorry to burst your bubble.  :)

All things are possible, but through time. In the 19th century technology growth has equaled the 18 centuries before combined. The 20th century has equaled the 19 centuries, and they predict that the 21st century will equal the first 20 centuries.... So it may be here quicker than one would think. Eventually, they will be able to produce donor bodies through stem cells and 3d printing, and transplant your brain or download your conscience into said bodies. Then with (manufactured) they could make you young again, shorter or taller, possibly make you genetically and physically the sex that you wanted, with fully functional organs

This! Just, THIS! I'm waiting but there's only so long one can wait sadly. Also, they could eventually make it so you don't get sick either however, there is only one problem I foresee with this, ok two, 1st being, people not dying, world becomes more over populated thus eventually killing us unless we can live without certain things such as food & water and even then, that may STILL kill us. 2 is, the soul. How would one convert/transfer the soul to the new body? For that matter, where in the body If it even IS in the body, (for all we know it could be the shadow or it could be something outside of the body) is the soul? Without the soul, you'd not be able to be in the new body.
