Scientists ready to test lab-grown penises on men

"Penises grown in laboratories could soon be tested on men by scientists developing technology to help people with congenital abnormalities, or who have undergone surgery for aggressive cancer or suffered traumatic injury.
Researchers at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, are assessing engineered penises for safety, function and durability. They hope to receive approval from the US Food and Drug Administration and to move to human testing within five years."

I thought as much. The same was reported for the lab-grown vaginas for women. I still think anything like this is great news, because it means we are just one step closer.

Yes, I imagine it's not suitable for trans people because they haven't bothered or tried hard enough. I'm sure it would be possible somehow.
Agreed Grace. If a penis and clitoris are the same basically, you have the cells. If this isn't a "congenital abnormality", I don't know what is.
If something ever happens to my penis I would not want a replacement. Instead, I would want the total removal with a proper urethra relocation. I no longer have any practical use for that thing. My wife gave up penetrative sex six years ago and I have either sat or squatted to pee full time for over 17 years.

Given they're starting to grow various organs from stem cells not related to original organ I'm not seeing what their problem is. But I suppose it is a start, a stepping stone to the next point, etc.
This is good news, but I'm no spring chicken and am not willing to wait around until stem cell junk is a thing. That will be likely even a longer wait than for medicare to cover it.

Anyone else remember that episode of South Park where Mr Garrison had one of these made and it was grown on a mouse and escaped? Thats what this article reminds me of
