I am only a month postop and have tried a few different scar treatments in the past couple weeks. I am now using silicone medical tape (mepitac but there are others) and find that it sticks much better than the scar away strips I had been using. When I was at Walgreens, I saw a tape with "silicone adhesive" made by Nexcare and wondered if it would work also. My instinct is it wouldn't, because it appears to be more like paper with silicone dots to attach it than the mepitac tape, which has a continuous layer of silicone. Anyone know how much silicone you need for it to work? I only wondered because the Nexcare tape is cheaper and I don't have to order it online.
Also, has anyone tried rosehip seed oil or tamanu oil on their scars? I read a scar care guide by a transguy, and he recommended them.
I know that the only thing that really helps scars fade is silicon, and I don't think that the Nexcare would help overly much given how little it sounds like it has.
I think the oil (with massaging) is to prevent stretching and to flatten the scars out, but I have also heard that massaging too soon (before 3 months, I think?) will actually make the scars stretch more. I don't know that the type of oil matters overly much. There's a lot about oil types in the recovery thread.

Ditto.
