Hi everybody,
I just got my neck done with IPL, reason being it is cheaper right now to do my neck and I want to see the results first before doing my face. The photos are 20 mins after the IPL and it still stings... is it normal and it is always this red afterwards :(
The lady I spoke to was very pretty and nice about doing it. She said she was going to put it to the highest setting to zap it all better as it will mean less zaps over time... and it stung and still does. I am such a big girl at times!

It will take about two weeks to notice a difference. You look like a good candidate so hopefully you get a good result. Laser did nothing for my face and neck.
You're not a big girl, you're a young lady.
Ok I would get my whole face and neck done at the same time. Sometimes I would be fine in about an hour, other times the next day I would still feel like I had a mild sunburn. Redness how long I stay red depends on how much water I've been drinking and can vary per session.
I started seeing results after my second or third session so don't be dissapointed if you don't see results tomorrow. Good luck and wait untill you try the face and get to the upper lip :icon_yikes:
Yeah its standard to go through that redness with these forms of hair removal. Grab an ice pack or somethin cold to keep that area cool and help ease the swelling. Also make sure to keep that area moisturized too.
Idk if you know this or not but Ipl doesn't work well for coarse bead removal since its not that powerful in comparison to laser. So if you're looking to get the most out of your budget just go with laser instead, ipl will take longer to see results since its not as powerful.

I had heard IPL was one of those things that it will either work or it will not. I have only really developed facial hair in my late twenties, I am in my early thirties now. So I am hoping it works. The girl that did it put it to the second highest setting and stated if noting changes by the third session she will give me back a third of the cash I spent. In terms of laser there is none for 560kms from where I live only this one IPL salon. So here is hoping and cheers for the advice.

Heh, thanks. :D
I will wait for after the three neck sessions I booked and if it is doing anything I will go full face. I have not told the girl why I am doing it as its a small community and very judgmental, but I think she will be open to it as she stated and I quote, "
Lets just see how your neck goes and if you like we could do your face. And do you think your wife will be sad to see it go, or will she be fine?." I explained I had no wife and just -really- hated facial hair. Then she smiled and added, "
Lots of guys get it -ALL- removed now a days, so if you like we can do that when you are more comfortable." I am not sure what she meant as I am the first guy she has had that wants hair removed that is not a back or chest to go to the salon?
In terms of the results thus far. The redness was gone in a few hours thankfully and the sting was gone by this morning. I just need to keep sunscreen on my face and neck now. I bought some aloe Vera for my neck also for after the next session. I might even look into a numbing cream if I can find one.
I found my neck was more sensitive and so went a little bit red but was gone the next day. It's natural for it to feel warm, bit like sunburn. I bought some natural Aloe Vera gel, and keep it in the fridge. After your treatment put in on and it will both south and cool the area.

I just had a shave ouch and there are a few small red strips now, hope it settles. And yes I put it in the fridge and just used a bit on it after I shaved --felt good-- heh!
This is the 24 hour mark, does it look ok or not.. I am a worrier with this kind of thing. The photos are 5 mins after I shaved. Curse my ultra sensitive skin, I swear everything irritates it :(

Looking at those pics I don't think you have anything to worry about. I get red bumps for about 5 or 6 days after my IPL then it goes down, a couple of days after that it's all smooth and another couple of days the hair starts coming out with the razor! You will be grinning from ear to ear the first time you get a totally clear face!

p.s. You will get less irritation if you skip shaving for a few days.
:-* Thank you I feel less stressed now.
I thought you were meant to wait at least two to three days before shaving?
Welcome xx

The clinic I went to told me to wait till the redness went down but I couldn't resist, after all I hate being rough shaven. My face felt like it was on fire for about 2 days after I tried to shave too soon.
I hate hair full stop it is one of my mega triggers so I could not handle it. But perhaps it would be wise to hold of an extra day next time as it does sting :-\
You could damage your skin if you shave too soon so it would probably be for the better to let it heal first.
The laser has blasted off the upper layer of skin, so I'd imagine shaving would be even more sensitive than usual.

My IPL place did tell me to wait at least a couple of days. After having IPL on Saturday, I hate facial hair that much I give it until Monday morning and shave.nseems to be long enough and don't get any problems.

You may of been the first guy to walk through her door wanting their beard remove, but get a few people together who don't know each other that work in the same industry and some talk will revolve around shop. So while in your town the guys maybe getting their chests and backs done, it could be different around the state.

The place I use didn't say anything against it when I asked (I prefer to be absolutely clean shaven for work).
My morning ritual was warm to hot shower, sensitive shaving gel and a fresh razor with a light touch. It probably helps that I've been shaving in the shower without a mirror since I started, so this is something I can do by touch alone.
Oh and I'm still as pale as when I started. I did use sunscreen and a laser aid everyday for a week afterwards. Nowadays I just wear sunscreen when I go outside
One week later and I can now shave thankfully, but no changes in hair density or volume. I seen two weeks was mentioned, is that when I will noticed it thin out or will it take several treatments to notice anything at all. Because I have only enough for two more zaps currently 6 weeks apart and I am praying I will see results of some sort each session to encourage me on to the rest of the face. In theory once I see results I will book in more for the neck and face, but it will be two months away.
From memory I saw something after the second session, by the third definitely BUT it was only faint patches of less hair here and there. Or a thinning I wouldn't feel like I needed a shave again that night
It's gonna hurt & be red for a while, sometimes a long time depending on how much was done. No majic pills infortunately for any of us. Good luck.
Today is 2 weeks and one day since I had my -FIRST- IPL on my neck done and I have 4 clear strips. It is somewhat creepy as I can see hairs below the surface still but they have not grown out and there is almost no shadow there. The other parts of my neck grew normally with a few milometers of coarse hair, excluding these strips. So I am hoping that this is a positive sign that it will work for me. Although it looks odd as its a bit patchy now with shadow sections, non shadow intense sections!
Yes it is a positive sign.
I found those strips funny to look at but also YES! it's working at the same time
Hi, Sarah Leah!
I have good news for you!
You say you are doing your neck, right?
Well, I've tried laser (12 sessions, got rid of about 50% of facial my hairs, pre-HRT), then
Year and a half of facial waxing ooouch!!! Didn't help AT ALL to get rid of any hairs, then
One electrolysis session. I got visibly scarred, under my chin and never came back, then
IPL 3-4 sessions, I don't really remember the exact number, with some girls that didn't know what the heck they were doing, then
IPL for real this time, with my cosmetologist, whom I met even before HRT as a so-called "guy", but only recently she got a new IPL machine!
It's been 11 IPL sessions for me now, the first 10 once a month, the next five will be every five weeks or so. . I think I got rid of ALL my darker hairs --less dark than yours, mine were dark/medium brown the darkest-- by the 8th session. The best results were on my sideburns, and THE NECK so that's the good news for you!
The bad news is that if you have any very fair or colorless hairs, like I do, those seem almost impossible to get rid of, specially around the chin. So like you, my cosmetologist is zapping me at almost the highest levels of the machine, even using body settings instead of the face ones! In the mustache area it is where it hurts the most, it is so horrible!!! So what I do is take loads of paracetamol like 20 minutes before the zapping fest starts, and a full Valium tablet. So we start chatting, I get the first zaps and then I fall asleep and she finishes me off while I'm asleep! By the time I wake up (or rather SHE wakes me up lol), it's already time to change to my forearms and then my lower back, where I still have a few funny hairs haha.
So, bottom lie, your hair is much darker than mine and your skin seems as white --meaning you are a GREAT candidate for IPL-- and the neck seems to be one of the best places to get rid of most of your unwanted hair with IPL, so you have all the aces already!!!
Good luck and please keep us posted of your progress okay?
Cheers
Bibi

So three weeks since I had my neck done. I decided to see what the first zap had done. Therefore to test it I let my hair grow for a full week, which sucked :( but it is for science.
This is the result of a weeks hair growth:
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs29.postimg.org%2Fj3a6hc9pj%2FIMG_0078.jpg&hash=9fa4798de2e9e2cd822fc94bbd8597c2a72fd27a) (http://postimg.org/image/9iqjugkdf/full/)
Before this treatment the hair on my neck was similar to my chin density.
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs21.postimg.org%2Fkmzflstjb%2FIMG_0080.jpg&hash=89133c49804f975e83b9a6b8818210fa2599b803) (http://postimg.org/image/fbkj137gj/full/)
Conclusion thus far it has thinned it a lot and you can see where she missed.
That is a very nice result after one session Sarah. I still have a stubborn area under my chin about the size of a $0.50 piece. It is not necessarily that she missed the area but the hair was not killed that session that's why it can take time and money. Lots and lots of money
So had my second IPL on my neck today, it hurt a fair bit although not as bad as the first session. The technician who did it this time and the last time asked if she could up the intensity for me by another two numbers. I said I would try it and it was -VERY- hot, however still not hurting so much as to make me cringe, then she hit the dark -strip- from the last photo and I almost screamed :( it stank of burnt hair. Her response was hilarious, she dropped her jaw said "wow that hair is dead now, I guess I just made your 5 sessions into four."
She later indicated that it was going very well considering I had only done one session before this one. She explained that she had been researching how best to approach male facial hair and was surprised that whilst I was hairy like other males, my hair was very soft somehow?
SECOND SESSION:
10 mins after

I only wish I was richer so I could do more areas at a time, but doing the neck first is better than nothing at all.
Thats a great result :o for 1 session.
So it has been several months since I did laser and today I started on my face. The neck took 4 sessions and has not had a single hair return since. Below is my neck sadly photos are on my old iPhone 4 so not perfect:
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs3.postimg.org%2F5iaxq440v%2FIMG_0587.jpg&hash=3d7517ae2e73677741061059ac614c0f9d0f465c) (http://postimg.org/image/5iaxq440v/)
In terms of my face.... dear god the pain!!
What it was like two hours after:
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs15.postimg.org%2F4fmb2k5k7%2FIMG_0555.jpg&hash=5a61648d8605af8db3cc09601652874c33dbf6cf) (http://postimg.org/image/4fmb2k5k7/) (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs15.postimg.org%2Fnjfmiwief%2FIMG_0556.jpg&hash=0d560e0943d59912ac33327ad265c719b90374de) (http://postimg.org/image/njfmiwief/)
I got the same cute girl from last time and she stated we will start low for the first one as it will sting. She was not wrong either as my upper lip felt like she had drove a hundred hot needles into it :(
On side note this is my hair after 6 months of growth from my last rage where I had it clipped all off..
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs21.postimg.org%2Fr10aegomr%2FIMG_0557.jpg&hash=45db8f642b314e04b5b53376bc63b93308fdfb42) (http://postimg.org/image/r10aegomr/)
So I woke up this morning with the darkest volume of facial hair I have ever had. I had to remove it as it has been five days and I could not take it anymore.
However I noticed a few whiteheads/pimples... I have never had pimples. They were only in the area of the laser on my chin and a few on my upper lip. I remove the hair and my god the pain!!
Has anyone else got acne like stuff after laser?
So been 11 days and this is the result of chin, cheeks and upper lip after one ipl treatment.

I had my third session on my lower face, as in chin, cheeks and upper lip. It hurt as normal but I was prepared this time thankfully and just thought about playing an xbox one game (fallout 3).
I kind of came out to a girl at work before going to get the ipl in an odd way. She said, "wow you know you are not very hairy for a guy. I was looking at your face before as you remind me of your mum (she used to work with my mum). I just looked at her and said, "Yeah I guess I am more like a girl than a boy what with my mind being programmed to act, feel and think like one." She just looked at me smiled and said yeah makes sense you are pretty feminine in your gestures when you think none of us are watching you write reports in your office. ???
Anyway here is a photo a 12 days after the third session.
Here is a bit of an update too. I lost another 5 kgs meaning I am 80kgs now compared to 120+. So after working up the courage I went to my GP and said can you refer me to an endocrinologist please. He gave me a strange look and said, "why."
I was a bit shocked as I assumed he was aware of the fact I have GD and stated to him that he would have a letter from Dr. Lyons that should clear it up. However he claims to not have got one so instructed me to get one sent 600kms from Adelaide to him in my regional township. Then repeated so what do you need for? I blurted out because I have gender dysphoria and he looked me up and down and said I do not follow. So I changed it to I have a genetic issue that requires I go on hrt. He still just kept looking through me like I was dumb and stated perhaps get this letter to me as I am not sure what it is you need or are getting at!!
Outcome utter embarrassment and back in my hole thinking I am a fat ugly freak. :(

It depends on the type of laser used. I've had good results with laser, but IPL did nothing for me. From memory, IPL hurt more too.
