Afunny moment on the phone today. I can't even do a male voice anymore so this is getting hysterically funny.
I answer the phone.
Caller: "May I speak to David R*****?"
Since I have not yet changed all my business accounts (working on it!!), I answered, "This is David. How can I help you?"
Caller: Loooooooooonnnnng pause.
Me: "Hello? Hello? How can I help you?"
Caller: "Um, well, Mr. R***** this is <telemarker> from Sirius XM Radio calling about your XM subscription in your Ford Focus."
Me: "I'm not interested."
Caller: Long Pause.... "May I ask why?"
Me: "I don't drive enough to justify the expense."
Caller: Long pause yet again.... "Oh. Well, thank you for your time, ma'am.. I mean, sir."
Click.
I am dying laughing here. :) I am now convinced that he thinks he got someone else, perhaps David's "wife" or "girlfriend". :P But it was pretty clear how confused he was. :)

Getting similar things here, but since I am not able to change my gender legally yet, the poor helpdesk people all over get very confused, sir, I mean ma'am, or sir... ;D

Thumbs up! You don't hear the term much anymore in polite company, but it's what used to be called gender f***ing.

Didn't take me a year. As soon as I understood exactly what everyone was telling me to do, my voice started passing right away.
haha I had a similar experience last year. I was canceling an appointment and the lady just kept asking me if I was "his gf" or what relation I had to "him" I had to repeat myself like a million times that I was the same person until she finally got it.
Made a similar experience just a week ago. I´m working at a trading desk in a bank and I´m used to take up phone-calls for my colleagues if they´re recently in a call like they do it for me the other way round. So this time Deutsche Bank called up for my colleague and it was going like this:
Me:"[...] bank, my name is [my surname] how can I help you?"
DB:"Hi, can I talk to Ms B. please?"
Me:"She´s in a call right now, may she call you back?"
DB:"Of course, I´ll wait for it. Thanks, uhm uhm uhm Ms. [my surname]!"
Me:"Alright, byee!"
;D ;D ;D ;D
Had a huge smile on my face for the rest of the day :P
